I always carrying my Springfield GI 1911 in the nice IWB leather holster made for me by gregintenn. In fact, I had never even tried on an OWB holster.

I was moving some stuff around tonight and happened across the original box (w/ accessories) for my 1911. I saw the el-cheapo kydex OWB belt holster that is included with the gun. I thought "Huh..Maybe I'll try this on.." I proceeded to put the holster on my belt, holstered the gun and ....WOW.. I never knew gun carry could be so comfortable.

Seriously, how did you all let me miss out on the comfort that is OWB carry?

Granted, it doesn't conceal well with this holster since the slightest movement of my t-shirt exposes the muzzle.

Seriously thinking about getting an OWB holster, but perhaps I'll get one for my officer size 1911. I'm thinking that might just work for me.

Sorry for the semi-pointless post, but I just had a "Wow, that *is* comfortable.." moment and thought I'd share with the group.

While I usually always carry IWB, I have to agree that OWB is more comfortable. But with the right clothing, I can conceal OWB just as well as I can IWB. I just have to change the way I dress a little.

I carry full size guns OWB without issue. I switch up between a 1911 and a 24/7 with a 5.2" barrel. Never had an issue. I do use leather holsters I have made for my own use. I decided to make my own when I couldn't find a holster that felt right and was angled right. Most holsters are angled too far forward for them to be comfortable for me. An uncomfortable gun is a gunyou won't carry so mine are as comfortable as I can make them.

A high ride OWB pancake holster is as comfortable as it gets and the bulge is about the same as my IWB. The benefit is I don't have to wear baggy pants. This is my favorite holster.

I like IWB & OWB carry. They are both pretty comfortable for me. I carry IWB at about the 2:00 position tho, so sitting down with my gun is usually more comfortable with OWB.

IWB definitely shows less. I usually just wear a T-Shirt with no other shirt on top so my OWB holster creates quite a bulge. I'm usually not too worried about showing tho so it doesnt really matter. I usually use just whatever holster I feel like using that day. :-)

A pancake style holster pulls the pistol close to your body, doesn't print much more than an IWB, and in my opinion is much more comfortable, and eaiser to access.

Greg, I may have to get with you regarding one of your holsters in OWB variety.

When I carry IWB, I usually carry a G27 or Ultra CDP II. If I carry a full size 1911, OWB is more comfortable.

I OWB carry a 709 slim. My wife doesn't like that I carry, but who cares. We were waiting to be seated at Cracker Barrel recently, when she noticed a bulge on my left side @ 3 o' clock. She said " Why are you carrying THAT old thing? Are you expecting trouble?" I replied that I was and if needed I would call 911 as I lifted my shirt to show her my cell phone! My 709 was on my right side sitting there un-noticed. (I think she's nuts).

Next time you get in the car with her, ask her why she's putting on that silly seatbelt. Is she expecting to crash?

Or why bother paying for that silly house insurance. I'm sure your house will never burn down!!
