unreal. More evidence as to why "liberalism" is a disease, and why more and more children are getting out of control in the things they do. Someone needs to take that judge outback and give him a spanking.

I wouldn't have pleaded guilty, I'd have gotten an attorney and fought that. hopefully she can appeal and get this overturned. but she probably didn't have money for an attorney to fight it.

I expected it to be Austin. That place has been wrong for a long time. Who in the world takes a kid to the emergency room because the kid was spanked?

no doubt! that seems a little extreme! not like she had broken bones, burns, or was severely neglected. she got a little swat on the butt. buncha pansy candy asses.

Sounds like the mother in law took the child - I bet there are custody issues/bad blood involved.

Well it appears they have a Judge that says spanking your kid is a crime.

Judges like that are why the courts are FULL. That judge is just ensuring job security in an already full market. There are enough actual criminals out there with out making more.

Here she makes parents criminal and future criminals out of the children that won't learn to obey.

I've seen real child abuse cases where the abusive parent said they were arrested for "Spanking" their child. What else do you expect them to say, who is going to admit to abusing a child? We don't have the luxury of having the information and evidence the Judge had.

The courts are full because we have a lot of criminals and the lower our economy goes the more we will have. Judges aren't worried about job security; most are elected. Cops don't have to worry about job security either.

You are right, we don't have all the facts. The article didn't go into any abuse.

I was trying to make a generalization as it sounds like this judge is against all spanking. Saying you don't spank today.

"leaving some red marks" we do not know the severity of the "marks". Whooped my kids and have done the same to grandkids, but no marks. Just making a point.

and some people bruise easier than others and you hardly have to touch them. so it would be reasonable to think that some people may get red marks easier than others even if they were only lightly spanked. just making a point.

And people wonder why their children are out of control.

This parent was doing what must be done. That is she is putting the fear of doing something wrong in their mind. If a child isn't afraid of getting hurt when they do wrong they have no incentive to do what is right. I didn't have to spank my son after probably age 4 or 5 but it was always on his mind long after that age.

This is only getting worse also. I have heard people say that grounding or not allowing kids to play their game consoles is child abuse. The biggest problem is these parents are more concerned with being their children's friend than being a responsible parent.

Wow. In Texas of all places too. I feel certain there has to be something else to this story, but taking judge's comments at face value... wow.

My wife and I have, semi-jokingly, said that we should go ahead and introduce ourselves to the local child protective services people. Because we'll be the ones who get the cops called on us for whooping our kids in public.

If you get sent to jail for a simple spanking, I'd have been sent to jail twice this week. 3 yr olds can be ... stubborn.

From the Judge's quote, I don't think there was any way this was a true child abuse case.

I wish she would have not plead guilty simply because we don't need this kind of precedent any where in the nation.

Does that mean that every parent who ever spanked their child in Texas is now a criminal?

Nope, child abuse is handled on a case by case basis. It’s one of those things that you can’t give a written absolute description of what it is; but you know it when you see it.

Here’s an example…

Smacking your kid on the azz with your open hand and no leaving marks… probably no problem.

Beating your kid with a belt or hitting them so hard with your hand you leave marks or bruises… don’t be surprised if the cops show up and put you in handcuffs.

Thanks; it was a rhetorical question.

It's not liberalism that's the problem. It's "progressives" that are the problem. "Progressive" people from both the right and the left tend to be statists and have these screwy beliefs that society needs the guidance of political elites and central planners to function properly.

man I am claiming child abuse on my parents. My brother laughed at my moms hand poping so she got a belt...laughed at that to, then there was the boat paddle

I just went back to this story I read something I missed the first time, in this case, this child was taken to the hospital, I had missed that fact. So I guess there would have been a doctor and medical report against the parent.

***********

However, want to talk red marks, when I was in grade school I was padded by some of the best teachers with paddles that had holes drilled in just the right places. They knew how to use them too. I guess, statute of limitations has ran out on that so I can not sue them or the school board.
