Signs at Target- White Bridge

I sent a polite note to Target corporate offices regarding the following sign posted at each checkout. It was Sunday and I was already not particularly enamored with my fellow man that day, so I didn't start at the store level. Plus, the sign is branded so shouldn't Corporate know about it?:)

I received the following this AM-

Thanks

for taking the time to ask us about the signs you saw at your local Target store.

Target complies with all laws in the states and communities where we do business. Because laws pertaining to guns vary by state and even city, we ask that you contact the Manager, aka Store Team Leader, or Executive Team Lead for Asset Protection at the store where you shop. They know the laws in their community the best.

Thanks for shopping at Target.

Sincerely,

Ana

I'll go in this week to talk to "the Manager, aka Store Team Leader, or Executive Team Lead for Asset Protection".

I was wondering if anyone else had run into this? I could see if it was a remnant of days gone by. The signs are fairly new, I believe. They used to have a similar sign posted with the booze but it disappeared the day I went in to talk about it.

Sorry if this has been covered before. I ran a few forums in my day so I am loathe to post new threads without a thorough search of the archives but I defy anyone to cull a full text search containing the word "Target" on a firearm forum.

It's the old signs that TN ABC required.

Use no longer mandated by TCA, but there is anecdotal evidence that some ABC agents still tell store owners that they are.

Never did have anything to do with HCP folks.

edit: wow, I wondered by my ear was itching, Erik. :)

Yeah, I knew they didn't apply to me but it seemed disingenuous, at best. At first I figured there was an agenda at play but considering the erratic nature of the area, the signs are probably directed at people carrying weapons illegally.

You know the ones. The ones that read signs...

These signs were only recently put up (mid June) though this Target location which has been selling beer for almost 6-9 months I believe. I wonder if an ABC inspector misinformed them. These signs are what had me scouring the internet to find answers which led me to joining this forum. I got nothing but run around from Target corp and dodgy answers about corporate compliance in signage from Steve the store team leader. I frequent this store and feel that while the statement of law is antiquated and not applicable Anyways it should be removed since it will do nothing but promote confusion if I print while CC or feel like OC'ing in 99dangdegreeweather and lead some store employee to feel obligated to confront me regarding carrying in the store. Hopefully they will remove them, I was most incensed because the font of the text is several sizes larger than the smaller signs below it saying 'Alcohol can't be served to minors' & 'ID must be shown for alcohol purchases' etc. And there are no entrance signs. Thank you JohnL for mentioning this!

KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!! The sign means absolutely nothing to honest "card carrying" people. It's possible the local management is anti and things could go downhill from here.

I do like Target.

Folks above are right. Doesn't mean anything now. My local liquor store has one behind the counter. The owner knows just about everybody that walks through his door is armed. It's just there because the board told him to put it up.

Another case of "pick your battles". I wouldn't think of giving the owner a hard time or expect him to get into an argument with the liquor board over it.

This is one time I disagree....

If these places are putting the old signs up because an ABC inspector is telling them too...it needs to be reported to the ABC. According to the ABC person my State Reps office talked to, inspectore are NOT supposed to be requring places to post these old signs, or threaten them with a violation if they don't put them back up. I didn't have all my facts together about when and where they were still being required to post them and when I did check found they had already been taken down...so sort of gone as far as I think I can with that...(used up all my credit)

Now of course if the place is posting these to satisfy some without actually prohbiting carry (something I've never fully bought into) then I guess that is different....

Report it to the ABC.....leave the store out of it.

The more you stir in sh** the more it smells. If you carry legally you have nothing to worry about. It doesn't infringe upon the HCP owner. Let 'em blow smoke. I am sure there are many laws regarding carry that are still in effect that do not apply to HCP. Walk softly and carry a big gun.

Do not patronize Target. Period.

Back at the start of Desert Storm when the 101st was being deployed, the first group was being bussed from Ft Caampbell to their departure point. The busses all passed the Target on Wilma Rudolph just before hitting I24. One units wives group asked target if they could gather in their parking lot to cheer and send off thier loved ones, as they passed out of town. Target had the biggest road frontage and clear view for their passing. The troops had been locked down for several days prior to their departure. The wives had asked for about 2 to 3 hours time and would only use the farther reaches of their lot. The Target manager refused to allow them access. This was on a Tuesday if memory serves me. Well on Saturday Target allowed a Gay/Lesbian activity in the same area.

The wives group fired of a letter questioning why the disparity in allowing use of their parking lot. Several weeks later a reply from their Corporate Office arrived. Basically they stated that as a French owned company they felt it was improper to offer support for mlitary operations. They also claimed that as a company they had a polcy of non-bias towards any group and regularly offered support to many diverse groups.

Needless to say the wives group organized a boycott of Target. They used their newsletters, phone lists, and military connections.A neighbor who was Target's Asset Leader at the time later said that Wive's Group was pretty much sucessfull, as sales over the next year was off by almost 14% compared to stores in similar military areas.

The next 101st deployment was treated differently By the local Target. Lesson learned. There are some of us still remember their snub. They made their choice of who to support thta day.

Besides they are a foreign owned company as they said, as if that was all they needed for a reason. Some of us figured that was also a good enough reason to take our business elsewhere.

So still after all these years will not spend a dime with them, their posting becomes irrelevant to me!!

Since Target is not a French owned company, and thus certainly would not have responded so, I can't give a helluva lot of credence to the rest of your saga.

As a matter of fact, your whole story sounds like a compiled paraphrase of some of the Snopes debunked urban myths regarding Target.

About the worst I can find re Target is that they indeed don't allow Salvation Army bell ringers; because they don't allow any solicitation at all.

(sorry for the off topic continuation)
