Selling bottles of liquor to another person?

I know Randy personally, and the thing about his case that was so messed up was that the bottle he sold was never going to be opened. No one in their right mind would pay that kind of money for a bottle to drink. His case ended up getting the law changed where the state issues a collectors license where he can sell the collectable bottles. The last time I asked him about it he was the only person in the state with the license. In the end it cost him major bucks to get his collection back and they still ended up keeping around 20 cases of his JD bottles. He probably has the biggest JD bottle collection in the world, with some of his old bottles being worth $10k+.

I wonder how much of the money from the 20 or so cases ended up in the State coffers?

oh BS. The law is to prevent bootlegging, not what the OP suggests. Even if caught nothing will happen.

Not bs, mikey....it's the law. I agree that few cases are prosecuted, but it is illegal. My wife refuses to sell (and can refuse to sell anyone under current laws, regardless of the reason) some customers at her liquor store, simply because she knows they are buying 25 pts, on a Sat night to sell in the neighborhood on Sunday. And yes, there have been prosecutions in Memphis for that.

I would have to say that if it was me (and I didn't want to drink it). I would just save it until you have someone that you can give it to as an appropriate gift. The great thing about re-gifting alcohol is that for the most part, it only gets better while you hold on to it.
