I've heard that it turns an A2 buttplate into an unpleasurable experience. It can collapse cheap multi position stocks. I'm thinking maybe an Ace stock.

I wouldn't shy away from a collapsable stock, but would make sure it's a good one.

The RRA stocks look real good. I may go with the fixed one, just because it has a QD socket in the toe. The rifle's gonna need a strap.

BTW... I will probably use a muzzle brake if one is available

Had the ACE Skeleton on the first "Marty" Socom I owned and it did help decrease overall weight and was solid for shooting but made the gun very front heavy.

This thread has my approval

Sound like you will have 2 nice setups Mac!

Thanks. I'm taking my time, and really am in no hurry. Hopefully I'll have some pictures of the barrels when I get back this weekend.

I took my time letting the .458 come to the top of my list. Now my OCD is kicking in. :D

Yeah, it looks like you're going to be done in no time. Probably just enough time to call Mark and get that new safe delivered.

I have turned into a fan of bolt guns for subsonic use. Even without a suppressor they are quieter than most autos. Right now the only dedicated subsonic bolt gun I have is my wife's 45 ACP built on a Savage action. I sold all the other stuff thinking I was going to be unable to shoot like before because of my injuries. I am looking for project guns again but have yet to find what I am looking for. I am really needing a Remington 580/581/590/591 for a centerfire conversion. Other than that I would like to find a beater Savage.

Ok... I'm all in now. Everything for the basic gun is ordered and paid for. Even grabbed a couple boxes of ammo. In case you guys weren't aware, a PMAG won't work for a lot of the .458 ammo. The 500gr thumpers won't fit at all. Gotta find some different mags... maybe Lancers.

BTW, a comment about SBR...

I find it funny that they put "Save your 458 SOCOM brass!" on the absolute CRAPPIEST ammo boxes on the planet. They suck worse than Wolf. C'mon boys. At over 50 bucks a box, can't you make something that's reusable?

Is it an OAL issue? I guess all my old mil-spec mags have been lonely over the last few years.

Sorta. The PMAG has a couple of V notches for .223 bullets. So, there's a center "V" that cuts into the follower. Look down into one of your PMAGs and you'll see it. The 300gr hollow points are short enough to clear it. The 500gr bangs into it. The .458 guys are lovin' the Lancers. Polymer mags with steel lips. They also tend to hold the .458 at the right up angle to hit the feed ramp reliably. I read some posts on tweaking the feed lips on standard GI mags. I REALLY want to avoid that experience.
