All those Rohms/RGs sold for about $25 new. They certainly haven't appreciated.

Signed up for a big auction in Cleveland last year, got there an hour early....standing room only.The place was packed. Doubt if there were any deals.

Although, mostly shotguns and rifles.

Finn Moisen...great wood...awful bore. There were a few long arms...lots of revolvers and a couple of "interesting" singleshots. Norinco SKS x 2. A very pretty Parker double. Lots of points and interesying NA things.

I believe they are talking about hair clips at least that is what my wife says. Hell she even corrects me if I slip up and say clip. I have taught her well.

If I had more then a night to go over this and it wasn't for the gun show tomorrow I would probably like to check this out. However I don't have time to do it.

However, I see a few things I would probably bid on.

Very rarely any deals at an auction, especially guns. Folks get caught up in bidding, fall in love with an item, or don't want to 'lose' to the guy bidding against them. Very hard to get a deal at an auction. Seems like stuff sells for more than new prices far more often than anyone gets a deal. If you go, know exactly what you're bidding on, what it's worth, and what you're willing to pay for it before you start bidding, and stick to it. Most auctions have a buyer's premium on top of the final bid cost, so be aware of what that is as well and factor that into your bid.

well said, that is why at the last minute I know better then to go. I look at the list. I see thing I like but I don't have time to dig up prices and then devalue for condition on the spot. I don't want to pay new price for used at an auction.

Any reports? If it is like a typical Powell Auction guns will usually be well used and sell for way more than they are worth.

last auction i went to when i was younger was exactly as advertised by the gentlemen on here.........no deals and pries that make you say huh????

You're exactly right 56FordGuy. It's the frenzy akin to paying $6 for a $2 hot dog at the county fair. Not only at auctions do we see this though. I see "used" guns offered on many of these sites at "new" retail prices, or higher! Shop wisely for a gun, no matter where you're getting it... especially, if you're looking for bargains in a pawn shop. Most have that big, thick, gun price digest near by, and know exactly what a gun is worth. "Buyer beware"!

Heck some guns they would even start out at like 800 and bypass the whole 50 opening bid. If it is worth 1000 and opening is 800 no way to get a deal.

I have bought a few guns from Powell. A lot of stuff goes high but there are some good deals to be had. Your really abstract stuff usually most people don't have a clue what its worth...now if your going to buy Colt's or Smiths you might be disappointed, but older FN's, pocket pistols, brownings, and the like usually can be had at a discount....another part of it is attrition too....buy early while people are thinking or buy late when most people have gave up and left.
