Curious on the recommendation and price range of a good holster? I've read that an IWB is usually best for concealment but can be uncomfortable if you have a few extra pounds. I'd like to get an IWB & an OWB so I can switch depending on my dress. I was just curious what a good holster runs and which are better...ie leather, kydex, etc. I have a Llama micro-max pistol. Basically a .380 in a compact 1911 style. I've heard plenty of bad stuff about these pistols but it was given to me and it's all I've got for now. It's been fine so far w/ a couple hundred rounds that I've put through it myself. I figured I'd mention what I'll be carrying since a holster for one of these may be harder to find than for a more main stream pistol.

Try gun broker .com for the holster. I would suggest you shoot the crap out of that thing. I've heard some really bad reports about the llama .380. But then again if your not having problems it may be fine

Yeah I've read a lot of negative stuff too. I'm working it every chance I get. For now though a new pistol is not in the budget. Of course come May I may do my part to stimulate the economy.

My apologies...I just realized this thread should have been posted in the "Accessories" forum. Sorry folks for not paying attention!!!

If you know anyone with different styles of holsters, try and get with them so you can try different kinds out. Different styles of holsters work in many different ways, and one might work well for your body type that does not work well for another. I have a smaller waist than most, so the holsters that work well for me are ones with the loops closer together.

You also need to find out whether you prefer leather or kydex. I'm faster with leather, and it just feels better to me. Other people I know are exactly the opposite.

If you're going to get another carry piece soon I would obviously suggest not getting an expensive holster for the one you have now. I'll second jackdog; check out gunbroker.

For a good, not so expensive leather holster, check out the Don Hume line. If your Llama is a 1911 style, and its size is appropriate to the standard, you'll have no problem finding a holster.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I might also suggest you go to www.opticsplanet.com and take a look at their array of Bianchi leather and nylon holsters. Their good Accumold Nylon belt slide holsters for a CZ 75 were only $26, and a very impressive pancake style was the same price, so you can get a very good but inexpensive holster for your Llama there. Also, you can look at about every kind of holster known to man on their website as Bianchi makes all of them! But one warning.....if you want to order something from them, call their 800 number and make sure it's in stock first. If you order over the Internet and it's out of stock, you won't be notified for about three days.

My only comment on your Llama is this.....your pistol is of a very old design, I bought one in .22lr in 1965, and it probably wasn't originally designed for the higher pressures of the more recent hot loads. Also, I'd be surprised if it's throated for JHP loads either. So in selecting a load for this particular pistol, I,d be sure to test fire it with that load before carrying it for defense to make sure it functions ok. Best wishes on finding you holster and also on your May venture. :)

I stopped in Gun City in Nashville and took a look at what they have to offer. They certainly didn't have a huge selection by no means but one of the guys in there named Larry was very helpful. He basically said the same thing as you Strickj...he said just bring in my pistol and I could try some on to see how they fit me and my pistol.

You also may want to think about ordering a universal leather holster and boning it yourself

Ok I'm new around here and obviously new to carrying and such...but what the heck does that entail? :D

Sorry but I just love saying that! You can get leather holsters that are un-molded that will fit many similiar sized guns. They work out of the box or you can form fit it to your gun(boning)for a comstom fit.
