Green Hills area info?

I live out in the country and was thinking of heading to the Nashville area for a night out and a good dinner. I want to stay the night so I'll be looking for a room. I was thinking of the G.H. area mainly because there's a good tobacco shop I want to hit.

Anyone know of good restraunts or other things to do in the area? No chain restraunts! I don't mind expensive food if it's very good. Too old for the club scene.

Thanks

I think part of the reason why there haven't been any replies yet is because the parameters are kind of wide open, except for your exclusion of the club scene. I wouldn't know where to start there anyway. As for Green Hills, it is fairly centrally located in the greater Nashville metropolitan area and an easy 10-15 minute drive (with traffic) from downtown Nashville proper. I wouldn't necessarily look for a hotel in Green Hills proper but probably one in downtown if you're wanting to be near the unique restaurants and want to stay someplace interesting.

What sort of food / activities are you looking for, other than the tobacco shop?

Thanks guys. I was lookng at GH because I want to buy some cigars from a good shop there, I can hang and smoke a couple while there, then I figured I could just stay in the area and find a good place to eat, maybe some good wine, and stay somewhere close so I wouldn't have to drive. A cab would be fine. I don't know the Nashville area at all, I spent a day there last month but moved around so much I really didn't get a handle on the areas. This after over two years living in Tn.

I'm just trying to move around the state a little when I have some time off.

Was looking at the Hampton by the GH mall. Looks like a decent inexpensive place, kind of centrally located in that area.

Dave, I appreciate the suggestions, I'll see what happens.

I don't know about Green Hills, but if you don't mind taking a cab or driving not too far, Anatolia on White Bridge has some of the best Mediterranean food around. And their baklava is awesome. They also have a decent wine selection to go with their food at prices that won't even come close to breaking the bank.

Nero's Grill in GH isn't bad. Not great, but not bad.

Shalimar is supposed to be one of the best Indian places in the city.

Both are walking distance from GH Hampton Inn.

If you want a steakhouse that's NOT a chain (Morton's, Ruth's CHRIS, Stoney River, and Fleming's) then you can try The Stockyard or Jimmy Kelly's. Neither are in GH, so you'd need a cab. The Stockyard is proud of their wine cellar. The Stockyard used to have a courtesy van than ran to area hotels. They may go to GH. You'd have to call.

Oh man, thanks folks! That's what i'm looking for. Unfortunatly, when I went to make reservations yesterday (Sun) everything is booked! I don't know if something big is going on in town or what. It seems a bit odd to have most of the good hotels filled in the middle of the week. They were open on the weekends, but I'm working the next 4 weekends on my rotation. Glad I just didn't drive to Nashville hoping to get a room. I'll try again in a couple of weeks and will glean more info online. This was a spur of the moment idea that isn't working out.

Again, thanks to you all.
