Gunsmith needed E-TN. Recommendations?

I have a gentleman that is emailing me from Maryville, TN. He has a fairly easy task for a gunsmith to do.

He needs the ejector removed and new one installed on a Rem 870 20ga wingmaster. He is upgrading from a 2 3/4 inch to a 3 inch. He has the new barrel already.

He lives in Maryville TN ( I believe that is E-TN ). I know there is someone who is closer to him than me. While I'm all about taking customers work, I also like to help folks out. With the shipping involved and the lack of great communication, I really don't want to take on this task. Anyone got a recommendation that I can forward off to this gentleman?

I have heard good things about Predator Custom Shop on Papermill Drive in Knoxville. They are better known for their custom AR's but they have a full service gunsmith. It is just a word-of-mouth recommendation and I have not used them myself.

Predator is at the end of Papermill in Knoxville. They are open from 10am-6pm Tuesday-Saturday.

They have done dozens of jobs for me over the years and all have been perfect. If anyone can do what you are asking it is them. They are also great people to talk to about guns and life in general. They are good people sho take care of their customers.

There number is 865 521-0625.

The smith at Fox sports and boats.

He does nifty work

Did he get his FFL back?

It was taken away by the ATF 5 or 6 years ago for several violations over a period of several years. He has continued to do gunsmithing work the last time I stopped in there a few years ago even though he no longer had his FFL. He said as long as no one left a gun over night it was legal and he is right. Problem is he would take guns in and keep them longer than a day. I asked what the ATF might say about that. He said the ATF would never know how long he has had them because he quit keeping a book to log them in and out after he lost his FFL.

He is a nice guy to talk to and I have done business with him long befor ehe lost his license. Not sure I would trust leaving a firearm there now unless he got his license back. It would really suck to have a gun siezed as part of a case against him and waiting years to get it back.

At times I wish I didn't have to have a license to do what I do. I hardly ever sell firearms. But I don't make the rules. I pay to play and boy do I pay!

No I wouldn't use or work with a gunsmith that didn't have a license just for the reasons Dolomite posted above. Too risky.

I turned this gentleman towards Predator. Hopefully they can help him.
