Favorite Finish

I was thinking along the lines of 1911s, but I suppose could work for any gun. I like stainless steel. I've got one in cerakote. Got some blued. Got one duracoated. Heard bad things about Sig's Nitron not being durable, I don't care much for Parkerized.What do you think is the best/and most durable finish?

Love the XD's but there was a problem with their finish too. I like a glass bead blasted Stainless but the problem is a holster will polish the high spots in short order and that looks like poo.

Really though, I like a good matte blue or brushed/matte stainless. Easy to keep, no unsightly finger prints and it's easy to refinish at a later date, just bead blast and blue for a carbon gun or bead blast and leave as is for a stainless one.

I'm really not picky. The gun I carried for many years is the Kimber Aegis, which has the black matte slide. I'm not sure what technique they used for it, but it looks nice enough. Over the years it did wear, but that doesnt bother me.

My new carry gun is a black XDm, which has the melonited finish. Looks good to me too. I'm sure it will wear eventually as well, but I don't mind. This gun's purpose is not to look pretty.

For a range gun, I like the stainless look. My other XDm is black with stainless slide, and I like that quite a bit. I'm not going to bother coating a gun unless it actually needs it for corrosion resistance, but so far I have not had a need for that. I take care of my guns and have never had any problems there.
