Response from Hon. Zach Wamp regarding H.R. 1022

I wrote to Representative Zach Wamp regarding H.R. 1022 and asked him what his stance was. I was pleased to get a response within days, and I submit his response below for your enlightenment.

There are important steps we can take to ensure the security of our citizens without trampling all over the U.S. Constitution. Thank you for contacting me about your Second Amendment rights.

Guns do not commit crimes, people do. Washington DC, where it is illegal to own a handgun, proves that we do not need more gun control, we need more crime control. In Washington, the "bad guys" have guns and the law abiding citizens do not. Hard data clearly shows that gun control does not work.

One of the rights that is specifically protected in our bill of rights, second only to the freedom of speech is that "...the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed." The Constitution is clear about this. I will continue to support and vote for legislation that protects your right to bear arms.
