If so,why?

I quit years several years ago in favor of the Wall Street Journal, which I still take daily.

My primary problem was and is that I can pick up a copy of the Tennessean, or the Jacksonville Times, or the Atlanta Journal-Constitution or any of several other papers and basically be reading the same paper. Now that all of these are getting a lot of their news from the Associated Press or Reuters or wherever, I just didn't see the need. If I want that, I can go online.

I do like reading a physical paper, though. Even though I'm in front of a PC all day, and do read several news aggregators, I find that my online viewing is Balkanized. That is, I'm only going to follow links and read things I'm interested in. As I read the front section of the Wall Street Journal as I'm eating my cereal in the morning, I'm exposed to several stories I likely wouldn't see otherwise.

So, for that, I like getting a paper.

That said, the WSJ's iPad app is fantastic. You basically have the whole paper, in an easy to navigate and consume format on your device.

Sunday Coupons!

True Story:

My wife was at Publix using some coupons and the manager said to her "There was a lady last week who saved $200.00"

She blushed and said "That was me." Our grocery bills aren't always that high, but that week we had family in.

The wife thinks she needs it.

I'm hoping to replace this liberal rag with Nashville Retrospect but I know she'll want local news without going to the web.

Absolutely LOVE that one! I'm not originally from Nashville, so I really enjoy reading about it's history.

I also intensely dislike the Tennessean. I used to like the Banner. I like the WSJ, but am too cheap to read it daily...just occasionally. Get most of my news from FoxNewsChannel and a variety of internet sources.

The retrospect is great. It's free around town, but I subscribed and get it in the mail. I was reading it every month, and figured they could use the support.

WSJ runs a promotion where you can get six days a week print edition plus online/tablet for $99/year.

I subscribe.

I know it's a liberal rag, but I'm a news junkie. Plus, it has local stories that the local TV news stations do not carry. And, of course, the Sunday coupons.

Isn't the Tennesseean owned by Gannet? You know, those wonderful folks who give us McPaper (USA Today).

yes the tennessean is a gannett holding the same bunch who owns USA Today, which once ran a byline under Al Shapiros column Time to Shoot Down 2nd Amendment.

I was just wondering why gun owners would help pay Gail Kerr ,Dwight Lewis and their likes salaries.

Sadly, its the only paper left in the area. But, considering their 2nd A stance, and total lack of customer service, I am beginning to wonder how they are still around...

THATS exactly why we stopped subscribing, customer service is some of the most incompetant I have ever seen. Not to mention most of the articles have a left leaning bias to them.

another rag, full of lies, misinformation, misdirection, half-truth's and propaganda.

actual newspapers in print are becoming a thing of the past, as newspapers struggle to retain customers who are in stead flocking to digital subscriptions by the millions in favor of online media/content. Won't be long and there won't be too many newspapers left that are actually printing.

some good news!

the nashville city paper says 34 more so-called employees at the tennessean have been laid off.

just a few more people to drop the paper and maybe they will lay everybody off.

does'nt hurt to email their advertisers to let them know you can't support them if they support the tennessean.

in times like these economic pressure goes a long way.

did gail kerr send any thank you notes to the subscribers for paying for her substantial make over?
