Help me with a starting point for Garand loads

Recommended Posts

So my press arrived at my house last week. I'll be getting my bench setup this week.

Help me start working on a load for my Garand. I know that powder is very important in these guns so please let me know what is okay to use.

Thanks!

Ball .30 Cal M-1 (earlier) was a 172 gr. bullet @ 2700 fps. later slowed to 2600 then projectile replaced with 150 to become the M2

A 147-150 gr FMJ with enough IMR 4895 to leave the rifle at an avg. velocity of 2700-2750 @ 78ft. is the M-2 spec with a pressure of 52,000 PSI

I have heard of folks using IMR 4064 and Varget also BL-C2 makes a nice deep boom sound and is safe also.... go no slower on burn rate chart than H-380

I run IMR 4895 with a 150FMJ as is designed... works great and shoots pretty darn straight 168-173 SMKs with IMR 4064 is also a nice combination...
