Obligatory boot thread

Ok, I need some boots. I know I'm treading on a sensitive topic here -I know lots of guys who have serious, strongly-held opinions on what constitutes a decent boot. I'm not generally a "tacti-cool" kind of guy, but do like the comfort and support a good boot offers. (Plus our gun club range is sometimes pretty muddy, so I get 'em dirty.) I need something in a color other than black. Came across this: http://www.lapolicegear.com/blwawedeopsb1.html

I have never bought any Blackhawk products, but have been 100% happy with LA Police Gear over the years.

Anyone have any thoughts/experiences with these or similar? Any local vendors I can give my money to instead?

Have you tried looking at REI? There is a local store in Brentwood. I just got a 20% off coupon if you need one.

I have always preferred "hiking boots" over any type of tactical boots.

Well, I was going to say that I was always comfortable in the boots I was issued at Basic though I had my own pair before getting there, but since you don't want black..

I have never worn the style they are issuing now.

I have a pair of Wolverines I started hiking in in 1967. They are still good to go and comfortable.

I have a problem with Blackhawk. A lot of their stuff in made in Vietnam and other Asian countries. And I think it is a favorite of the mall ninjas.

Been wearing wolverines and or Redwings for years, maybe not Tacti cool but they sure are comfy. But then again I have a custom made pair of ostrich boots (mercedes Rios)that are 10 years old look great an feel like house shoes.

I have a pair of LL Bean boots, they were a Christmas present one year and I love them. They are brown hiking boots, the waterproofing has worn off but that would be easy to fix if it was a problem for me.

In all seriousness try a pair of Doc Martens. Yeah I know they are not a tactical or combat style boot but they are seriously comfortable. Try to find a pair that has at least 8-10 sets of eyelets, they will be high enough for good ankle support. They are a bit more expensive but way worth it. Most comfortable boots I have ever had.

I have a pair of Merrell hiking boots and I love them. Light weight, comfortable, not mall ninja-esque, either.

I'm not tacti-cool either, so I really like my Rocky's. Plus, cleaned up, they look good for a night out on the town with a pair of khaki's or jeans.

Two useful pieces of information here. Many thanks Mars.

And thanks to all the other posters as well. I know have enough boot research to do to last me for hours.

And I thought it would be simple to add a decent pair of tan/beige/sand/whatever they call 'em boots to the wardrobe. Oh well.

I have some Converse safety boots from work that look pretty tactical... 5.11 is like lingerie for men... I own some of their pants, and wear them with the boots when I want to feel tacti-sexy.

:D

At least now I wont be shocked the first time I see a student wearing those on campus.
