After 9/11, local government, all over the country, rushed to protect the seats of power. Never mind protecting the people. Even today, LEO's are assigned "courthouse duty." Why is that? Terrorists aren't going after the court or cityhall. People don't congregate at the courthouse. People gather in churches, stadiums, even hotels and amusement parks.

Practically all laws dealing with terrorists are about making people "feel" safer. They have NOTHING to do with actually stopping anything.

Most of what passes for post 9-11 security is simply security theater. It has no real connection with keeping anyone safe. Courthouse security is generally good and effective and needed, particularly in civil cases. I'm glad it's there.

bajabuc, you couldn't be more wrong. Ever been in the courthouse during court? As a

"courthouse officer" myself, I can assure you we are there for more reasons than

Islam extremists. Even at our local courthouse in one of the smallest counties in

TN, there can be a few hundred folks packed in there. I've been doing Courtroom

Security/Court Officer since we began the program 3yrs. ago.

This program came down from Homeland Security, thru the Administrative Office

Of the TN Supreme Court. Partly due, ie: the Atlanta Courthouse shooting debacle

a few yrs ago. Not all "terrorists" wear towels on the head.

Ever been in a civil case regarding divorce, child custody, child support, etc.? Tempers

flare in a heartbeat.

Criminal court...victims family wants to take out the defendant.

All sorts of things can happen in court.

Our job in general is to keep order & make sure all go home safe.

Althoughy we are armed, guess who's going to get first contact? Part of the job.

Grunt's right. One of the main reasons I started carrying a gun 20 some years ago was because of a divorce case I had. You take a man's kids, pickup, and bass boat and some folks lose all perspective. I've carried ever since because of course, it's my fault his wife's leaving him.

Never had an ounce of trouble with criminal clients or any of the assorted people who deal in that arena, but I still do divorces and child custody cases reluctantly and rarely.

Well, you know first hand. Criminal clients are far down the risk scale usually. Some

exceptions of course. We try to nip issues in the bud, before it gets out of hand. I've

also escorted several parties to their vehicle while the other party was held in the

courtroom until they had safely left. Worked so far for 3 yrs.

I've even on rare occasion had to escort an attorney to their vehicle. Imagine that! LOL

My daughter works for the state of New Hampshire...in legal. She's in court almost everyday. She gets threatened almost everyday...(she hates her job)

Tell her to move South to TN. I take my job serious.

I wouldn't say things like that. A guy lost his job after 9/11 for saying something along those lines.

the FBI gave him a visit. We had guards on the bridges after 9/11 for a little while.

And they do sniff forums.

My daughter works for the state of New Hampshire...in legal. She's in court almost everyday. She gets threatened almost everyday...(she hates her job)

I'm not sure what you're getting at with this thread, but...

I am my own Guardian.

Additionally, I get paid to potentially go in harm's way at least 5 days a week (happened last night and there's a really good chance it will happen tonight/Friday).

I get paid to train others to WIN should they find themselves in harm's way.

Our last officer involved shooting consisted of an apartment building and a psycho with a gun and homemade/IED explosives.

We won.

The one before that, a psycho holding a butcher knife to his infant son's throat.

We won.

With post #19 in mind, what is your point?
