There was one this morning, dead, on the side of the road in Goodlettsville That is the 3rd or 4th I've seen up here in Sumner County in the 2 years I've lived here

I'd bet a .223 softpoint would turn one of those critters inside out. Overkill? How about .22 Mag or .17 HMR?

In the last month I have seen at least 10 roadkill in Williamson county. Haven't seen a live one yet.

According to Willie Nelson in Barbarosa they were good eating. LOL:D

I saw a report that said eating possums on the half shell can give you leprosy.

I'm in Florida right now. Plenty of armadillos down here. I've never seen any in east TN.

This is now some 40+ years back home in San Antonio, visiting friend. Invited to eat lunch (beautiful white meat) what I assumed was turkey. He later told me it was "Armadillo!" Course this was pre "leprosy" scare days. It was really, really good!!!

Have heard that the reason armadillos get run over so much is that one of their typical self-defense actions when threatened by a predator is to jump pretty high straight up. So when a car or semi is bearing down on them, even if they would have been spared and pass between the wheels, that reflex jump is what gets em.

Maybe that isn't true though. Dunno.

This is also supported by my high school physics textbook, which had a series of questions revolving around startled armadillos jumping and getting hit by cars.
