"he expected Washington to let Israel".......I hope Israel tells him to go to heck. Israel don't need Washuped to "let" them do anything.

The course Obama is taking is going to cause the Middle East to explode. And the US will be right in the middle.

While I was alive during the Carter administration, I was too young to know what was going on. Surely he could have not been this inept. Obama has to be the biggest horse's ass that has been in the white house. Even if he is defeated in 2012, what will the condition of the country be?

Why is the US such a staunch supporter of Israel? We have no bases there, require none of their natural resources, the country is strategically and geographically inconsequential with our current capabilities. Why is the US the great protector of a country more than able to take care of themselves as has been proven time and time again?

Besides being the right thing to do helping a "free" democratic country surrounded by Islamic theocratic governments, they are a super source of intel and have and would provide a base of operations for us if the need arose.

We won't delve into the biblical portions of why we need to keep them around though.

Not sure they could take care of themselves without all the US technology we've sold em. They don't build all them Phantoms, Mirages, and Sikorskys, yanno.

Matter of fact their air force is almost totally US supplied:

As to why? Pretty simple in that they're the only long term American allies we've really got in the whole middle east. Also big Jewish money/influence in all things in higher US policy since before 1948 to the present. Then there's the whole biblical moral thang, chosen people, even though Christians know they are all going to hell. :)

I think you're fixing to find the answer to that, due to Obama's attitude towards Israel. What he says by affirming our support and what else he is doing in the region tells a great story about his real support. He is square in the middle of supporting the muslim brotherhood taking over the other countries in the region.

He has repeatedly shunned Israel since taking office. If anything, it's re-election time, so expect to hear him say everything under the sun.

Most all of the Middle East Peace Talks have, since the last Israeli/Arab conflict, revolved around the 1967 borders as a "jump off point" for Middle East Peace. Most Presidents have not bothered to say it publicly, but only over the diplomatic table.

O reiterating it now does 4 things. 1) Makes him look good to the Arabs. 2) Shows he knows more about the situation than previously thought or expected. (Trying to boost his public perception as a President who does understand foreign policy.) 3) Put pressure on Netanyahu (sp?) who is know to be a political bully, the day before meeting with him 4) Makes it seem we are not the "Israeli Puppet" most other nations think we are...

I think it is mostly #1. He wants to "get in good" with the "Arab Spring" movement. This statement, plus his speech on doing a little "Open Wallet" diplomacy, in the area smacks of this...

Sadly for the Palestinians, had they worked better with the British back in the late 1940's, as the Israeli did, they too would have had a nation... (The area was a "colony" or "protected area" of the British Empire at the time. The Israelis had organized, including self-governing, from sewer treatment to telephones, while the Palestinians had not.)

Bingo. I'll let someone else expound on this, as I try to at least give the appearance that I'm NOT a member of the tinfoil hat community. :)

I dont get it either.

I understand Israel's stance over there -- it's the size of New Jersey, surrounded a million square miles of enemies vowed to destroy it. Israel's politics are based on survival in ways most Americans just don't get.

One critical strategic matter is the Golan Heights. Without control of that, Israel is essentially indefensible. They are NOT going to give that up, or anything else won in the '67 war, and I don't blame them. It would be like Chattanooga trying to survive while being shelled from Signal Mountain and Missionary Ridge.

We spent a great deal of money and lives fighting Hitler, who was exterminating the Jews in WWII, and were instrumental in the process of creating/ recreating the Jewish country in 1948.

Many Christians in the US have much respect for "God's chosen people" and therefore insist on supplying/ protecting them.

They are a Democracy and do not have as a matter of policy the goal of wiping us off the map–unlike all the countries around them that want a piece of their land. Obama is telling them to surrender to the Muslim extremists that want them (and us) exterminated.

They have been our ally and there is no reason to turn on them now.

Netanyahu, the conservative leader has given up more in concessions to their enemies than most of their

more liberal leaders. He has tried appeasement before.

That's all Obama cares to impress: muslims.

Daniel, Israel doesn't need someone to wipe it for them. They tend to take care of themselves against

odds you may not understand. They are the ally in the region. I don't know how you equate that to telling

everyone else to get ******. If anyone in that region in the world should be defended, it is Israel.

Political correctness and propaganda has run rampant against Israel for far too many years.

We are said to be world police to everyone unless it's Israel in which case it is covering our ally. What has Israel done for us?

I have never seen an IDF member backing me up. I have seen Canadians, Brits, Aussies, Bulgarians, etc.

I would prefer us pulling out of most everywhere including Europe and Asia.

But if you even had a token few IDF backing you up in the places we've been meddling lately, then it would likely call the entire country to arms and create a situation where you would need a whole heck of a lot more backup. :)

Just sayin, the IDF not being involved doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't be willing. Just that them helping would be a bad idea if the goal is to pacify our latest meddling-grounds.

I always kind of thought we had the Jews back's because they had ours.

Have they ever turned on us? Pretty much every one else has at one time or another.

Israel might be outgunned and outmanned, but they have never been beaten. Take the Jews + the points every time.
