It seems to work pretty good. I use it to wipe down the outer surfaces of my rifles after range days. It works well on my coated guns too and doesn't destroy the coating like harsh cleaners will.

THis^ I've used everything from Tide to Mean Green to diesel. Considering Kens comment about coating, There isn't one cleaner that's a Doall. If it works for your application use it.

I have seen it etch metal if there is a problem with the coating. I would be careful if the finish is weak.

You also need to be careful with some of the "purple" cleaners on aluminum. Many of them will blackened and/or corrode aluminum.

Diesel fuel is by far one of the most versatile and non problematic substances I've used to clean particularly dirty weapons.

Diesel is great. I really like to use the biodiesel that you can find at gas stations. It has a much more pleasant odor and works just as well. That is what I used to fill my parts washer.

Actually Bio-Diesel cuts crud even better than regular Diesel. I would run it every so often in my F250 just to clean the injectors a little.

I think it does work better. I love it in my parts washer. And the bonus is that it is cheaper than any of the other solvents too.

Yes, It is safe to use and works great. I just stripped my AK-47 of all furniture and soaked the entire weapon in Purple Power for about 30 minutes, rinsed all parts in water, and immediately dried everything with a hair blow dryer followed by a thick coat of WD-40, and then finished it off with cleaning as one normally would with gun cleaner and lubricants. Let me tell you, I've fired about 8,000 rounds out of this AK, and after this mega-clean it looks, feels, smells, and operates like it's fresh out of the box.

Sorry for the ramble, the answer is yes. Purple Power works great on guns and gun parts.

The purple stuff can really mess up aluminum. It will turn it white and dull. Ask me how I know…
