I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I need some info. SO here goes,I have a brother in law that lives in Georgia . I live in TN. He is wanting to trade me some guns (handguns for the most part) for a car I have that I no longer need. Is this legal? I don't want to do something that will cause me any legal troubles. I've never checked on this before. Any info is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Should be OK as long as you do the transfer through an FFL (I think maybe on both ends) if I remember correctly.....somebody correct me if I'm wrong....

Any guns being transferred across state lines must involve a FFL. He can deliver/ship them to a FFL in TN, if they will take them from an individual, and they can do the transfer.

Legally you would go to whomever you buy your guns from and ask them to do the transfer he your [brother in law] would either ship them to the dealer after getting a signed in ink copy of his FFL or the easier thing is to have him bring the guns when he comes to pick up the auto and the two of you go to the dealer together to do the transfer there will be fees involved or..... check your private messages

Seriously he is a brother in law he can't just drive here and trade you here?

I'm not trying to ruffle any feathers but wouldn't that make the most sense?

Whether the BIL drove to TN for the trade, or shipped the guns to here, they would still have to go through an FFL because the owner of the guns is a resident of a state other then TN.

Doesn't matter if its his father - transferring guns across state lines requires a FFL be involved.

Like others have said. Can't do it legally without going through an FFL.

The federal govenment regulates interstate commerce and guns fall under the jurisdiction of the BATFE. They make the rules.

Sure, if you really want to violate federal law. Posting about it online isn't the best thing to do either.
