Gun Busters sign what if

We all hate the gun buster signs no matter what they say but I'm wondering if there were a sign that said something like;

"Carry of a handgun by non-licensed persons is prohibited"

I know there are places that want to keep licensed people out like Mr Kay's in Oak Ridge. So I respect that and don't shop there anymore.

But there are places that think signs keep the bad guys out. So what if there were a sign available that said such that we could recommend to the establishments that are posted? I'm I crazy?

To the best of my knowledge there is not a sign availble that exempts those of us who are licensed. Perhaps some places that might not consider a removal might consider a switch.

I think most people are conditioned to accept that a license does carry some positive weight.

I think this may belong in the "Tennessee Politics and Legislation" forum?

In any case I think it's a great idea. I'd like to hear a legal opinion on whether it could work under the current laws since they made the gunbuster sign valid. It might have to be just the wording without the gunbuster but, if legal, I think it would be more effective with the gunbuster symbol..

Any lawyers with an opinion on this?

Maybe I am just misreading...

Are you suggesting that businesses post a "no guns" sign that is not legally binding, such as the one you said there?

If so... tons of businesses everywhere do. Most mainly just because they don't know the laws. I will carry there anyways, as it has no legal effect on me.

There is actually a post about this very thing going on in a different section right now.

How about a sign that simply says "Unlawful handgun carry prohibited"? If you have a HCP you are carrying lawfully.

I believe this is exactly what the OP was implying.

I think that would be a good idea. Appease the sheeple and still allow HCP carry. Before the gun buster was approved, I would say 'no' that it might open too many doors, but now I dont see what it could hurt

Sorry to not be clear one of my many faults on the internet.

My understanding is now about any sign will work anywhere near a door for them legally to keep us out, or get those who carry past in trouble if they get caught.

My idea would be to NOT approach non posted businesses, leave well enough alone of course.

But those businesses that are posted or do post in the future, and some of us do write letters or make calls to voice our opinion as legal and licensed carriers of firearms to get postings removed. Just trying to think of another option between "no guns permitted, at all, what so ever" postings. Some places might go for it. Especially if they had a link to a pre designed sign they just had to print off and tape up.

Redbarron06's "Unlawful handgun carry prohibited" would be fine as well. I don't know what would be legal or not. Would be nice to hear from a lawyer or AG.

Might start a trend. How about:

- Armed robbery forbidden here

- Bad checks not accepted

- This establishment does not allow murder on premises

- Patrons may not be accompanied by more than one spouse

- Exposed penises will be prosecuted

etc. :)

I would pay good money for someone to post an "exposed penises will be prosecuted" sign

but that was about to be my point. They post because they dont want anyone with guns, including us. its already illegal for everyone without a permit
