This is a WWII M1 Carbine purchase after the War and customized in the very early 60's.

My dad was the purchaser of this gun in the 50's or very early 60'she had it customized for my mom to deer hunt with but I was born before she ever got to use it so as soon as my dad knew that my mom was going to have a boy it became my rifle that I shot growing up. Now I just recently gave it to my son who is 12.

Not a bad M1, J! I like the high comb on the sporter stock, looks like it would be a blast to shoot!

Since it's low-power round, do you think they would let you shoot it at Range USA? (Hey it's worth a shot to ask . . . )

Very nice gun. If some girl is unfortunate enough to have my spawn I think that would be a really cool thing to pass down. ;-D Seriously though. I think it is awesome that you have an heirloom like that to pass down to your son that is also something he can take great pleasure from now and pass on to his kids later.

Congratulations, sir, and thank you for showing your custom M1 Carbine. Dolling up custom carbines was a fantastically popular job for custom gunsmiths in the 1960's, and every gun magazine you picked up had one in it. An old time custom gunsmith and China Marine named Tommy L. Bish published a book in about 1964 showing how to do certain custom jobs, and building a custom Carbine was almost the centerpiece of the book. After he published his book, home gunsmithing took off and many of these were done at home. You could get them from the NRA for twenty bucks and the sky was the limit on what you could put on them or have done to them. Your Dad obviously had an excellent man do the work on your rifle and it was really nice to see one again. Thanks again.
