I just got a Smith and Wesson 1911PD after asking some questions here and elsewhere, I have put about 300 rounds thru the gun with 0 malfunctions. I like the weight and balance of the 4" barrel on the Scandium frame it balances very well with an 8 rd magazine. I shot several 15 yard groups of less than 4 inches on a gun that I still dont consider broken in adn it is getting better every time I put a box thru it. I was hesitant to buy one of these because of the external extractor and the light frame as I am used to Kimber and Springfield steel or stainless 1911's but this gun has already removed any doubt, it is a very well made gun that functions smoothly and carrys very well I would recommend them to anyone.:D

Thanks for the report. I like the smith PD type 1911's myself. Would like to have a full size (...5 inch...). The light frame makes 'em a great carry gun. I think that most any manufacturer's gun today will outshoot 95% of the shooters holding it.

Have fun shooting and many thanks!

Anyone care to compare the S&W and Sig 1911's. Both have light frames, both have large external extractors. Any opinions about one vs another?

I like the grips that are on it now! I put flat bottom ergo grip panels on it with a Wilson Combat mag well and a piece of grip tape on the front strap to round it out. I dont like a gun to move in my hand sweaty or not and it stays planted with that combo. I have the same grips on a Kimber Eclipse Pro and my Springfield TRP has some serious grips on it from the factory. I do appologize for not posting pics I think Ill work on a flikr accoun t to host them tonight.

I also own a S&W 1911 PD, I have put about a thousand perfect ronds thru it . I did ahve 2 problematic Kimbers with external extractors, they proved very unreliable. I own a few older Kimbers purchased in the late 1990's as well as a few newer Kimber II's with the internal extractor and they run flawlessly. My daily carry weapon is a kimber ultra raptor.
