Dickson THP trooper, son of former sheriff dies in line of duty | The Tennessean | tennessean.com

Andy is the son of former sheriff Tom Wall, who was instrumental in reforming the HCP process in its infancy.

Andy Wall, Tennessee Highway Patrol Officer and son of former Dickson County sheriff Tom Wall, died Saturday after a crash while on duty.

Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Andy Wall, 36, of Dickson, died Saturday after a crash occurred while escorting U.S. Air Force Thunderbird pilots to an air show, according to a press release from the THP.

Wall, who was on duty, died shortly after being transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

Wall and Trooper Buddy Head were riding their THP motorcycles just before 2 p.m. on Sam Ridley Parkway in front of Stonecrest Hospital in Smyrna when the crash occurred. Head was also injured in the crash. Three other vehicles were involved.

Head was transported to Stonecrest Hospital and was treated and released with minor injuries. No civilians were injured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation and no further information is available for release at this time, according to the THP.

Wall was assigned to the THP Nashville District and worked primarily out of Dickson County with the motorcycle unit. He graduated from the THP Training Academy in 2004. His father, Tom Wall, is former sheriff of Dickson County. Wall leaves his parents, a sister, and girlfriend. Funeral arrangements are pending and will be announced later.

“I am saddened by the loss of Trooper Wall. He was a fine state trooper who was dedicated to serving and protecting others. Tonight, the entire THP family mourns his loss,” said Colonel Tracy Trott in the press release.

Department of Safety and Homeland Security Commissioner Bill Gibbons said in the press release that the state had lost one of its “finest.”

“I urge Tennesseans to keep his family in their thoughts and prayers,” stated Gibbons.

Lt. Col. Case Cunningham, Thunderbirds commander and leader, stated in the press release that the Thunderbirds team was saddened by Wall’s death.

“We hold a deep respect and appreciation for local law enforcement professionals, and our thoughts and prayers are with Trooper Wall's family and his fellow state troopers,” Cunningham said.

Dr. Bill is the brother of former Senator Doug Jackson who, as you'll remember, is a staunch Pro-2A proponent, and at least a co-sponsor to most of the recent HCP legislation we've benefitted from.

Dickson County lost a doctor who served locals for nearly 40 years – and usually smiled while doing so – when Dr. Bill Jackson, 65, died Wednesday after a brief illness at Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

“He didn’t experience any pain,” said his brother Doug Jackson. “He had a stroke in his sleep, and never really woke up.

“He just went home. It was his time,” he added.

The requiem Mass for Dr. James William Jackson, known to many countywide as “Dr. Bill,” will be celebrated Saturday at 1 p.m. at St. Christopher Catholic Church in Dickson, with Rev. John Sims Baker officiating. He will be buried in Dickson County Memorial Gardens.

Jackson was the son of the late Dr. Jimmy Jackson, who helped establish Jackson Clinic and co-founded Goodlark Hospital, which is now Horizon Medical Center.

Bill Jackson had recently opened a practice in downtown Dickson.

Bill Jackson joined his father at the hospital after earning his bachelor’s degree from Austin Peay University, his master’s degree at Autonoma University in Guadalajara, Mexico and completing his postgraduate training at UT Memphis.

“Bill had a huge impact upon the growth of the medical center in Dickson,” Doug Jackson said. “When he came back to practice with my father, Bill just worked all the time. It was just impressive.”

Doug said Bill developed several programs at the hospital and served on many committees.

Some of those organizations Bill served on included Dickson County Medical Association, American Medical Association, Tennessee Academy of Family Physicians and American Academy of Family Physicians, board of directors for Goodlark Medical Center and Jackson Clinic and board of trustees for Austin Peay State University.

Family

Doug Jackson said his brother cared deeply for his family and found time for them even with all the hours at work.

“He will be missed by his family,” Doug said. “He was quite a family man.”

He also had his family of patients.

“Bill had a magnetic personality. He was just warm and happy all the time. His personality was just endearing to anybody who met him,” Doug said. “Bill was just so nice to everybody. It didn’t matter if they were rich or poor or what their background may be, Bill treated them very tenderly."

I've lost two close friends this week. Both heroes. My heart can barely take more.

I am a little removed from Dickson these days, but still find it hard to believe.

I grew up around Andy, and knew Dr. Bill well.

It's a sad, sad, sad day in this county and state. It's nearly palpable.

Trooper Wall comes from a fine family of law enforcement professionals. Fine people who worked hard.

Dr. Bill was the most generous human I have ever known. A precious, loving soul who never met a stranger.

My heart is so heavy.

My mother went to HS with Dr. Bill and his dad Dr. Jimmy, delivered me when I was born. Don't have many ties there anymore, but I sure hate to hear about this.
