Swallowing my pride...

I am not ever a guy who asks for help, or a handout, or anything like that. But I have come to a point in my life where I do in fact need help. I owe it to my family to do all I can, and if that means putting myself out there...,than so be it.

Let me give you a quick breakdown of my life since April of 2010.

*Fiancé and I both working 2 jobs. Wife day care and me helping open a sub shop.

The second job we both worked for the same company doing at home data entry.

*Begining of April we go to bank, get approved for construction loan.

*Building begins 2 weeks later.

*Wedding was on August 28, home was finished on the 25th!!

*Honeymoon to Canada for 2 weeks...Victoria and Vancouver than Seattle.

*3rd day of honey moon, we get an email advising us at home work WAS OVER!! Contracts were suddenly lost, thus we were out of $22O0 a month!!

*Owner of sub shop decides to close it down at end of December! Now I'm jobless!

*Wife only one working now.

*I fall back on odd jobs and side jobs AND SALES OF ALL MY TOYS!

*First time homeowners and tax refund has helped pay bills, but we are down to 1 month worth of bill money left!!!!!

*Don't think I haven't been proactive in regards to job searches....career builder, monster, yahoo, craigslist....face to face at businesses!

*Staffing got me hooked up with Cellular Sales. One week before training they postponed a week, then 2 days before delayed training, they cancelled all together!

*2 weeks later, Staffing got me a 12 week contract with Denso. worked 3 days then they cut me loose!! said I did great, helped them out, and good luck!

*54 applications sent out....6 return calls or emails!!

Now please guys do not look at me weird, or take this wrong. I AM IN NO WAY ASKING FOR A HANDOUT!!! or donations. Or anything like that. But I would greatly appreciate a prayer. And earnest heart felt prayer. Maybe a good word to anyone hiring?

Thanks to all...

ever worked in a restaurant? You might be surprised how much money you can make working part time. It might enough to get you by for a while until you find steady employment.

Good luck man!

Not an actual restaurant no, just McDonalds and Wings To Go in high school? Are you referring to waiters and servers?

Sorry to hear about your dilemma. I've been back to work and am only working part time after a year of searching. I'll pray. Stay positive. Welcome to "THE CHANGE".

rebeldrummer,

Where you at in East Tennessee? My employer is hiring (Knoxville area). It's office work, but it is a paycheck. Shoot me a PM if you're close enough for it to be a possibility.

If you are not afraid of some physical work, can drive a stick shift box truck I may have an option for you. (Can't have any DUI that shows up)

It is basically a delivery job with some warehouse work involved.

I cannot also stress enough that if you are prone to using sick days it will not work out. Not accusing mind you just being up front about it. If a guy no shows on us it puts us in a real bind that day. Of couse people get sick, I have two drivers right now, one has never missed in the four years I have been there, the other missed one day about two years ago, I have missed none.

4 day work week Tues-Fri 6:30 AM to ? ( between 35 and 40 hours total) vacation, insurance etc.

We are located in Knoxville near the Post Office that is on Weisgarber.

if you are interested in hearing more call me at 865 228 8451. That's my cell number ( we all work off cellphones, no one answers the office phone, LOL )so I would be the guy anwering ti

where in east tn are you? knox, tri cities?

any specific work experiance you have that may be useful? are you up for about anything? any minimum you need to be making to still be keeping your house?

if you are in my area (tri cities) I will most certainly takea look around and see what I can find.

I am certainly sending my prayers as well. Whatever you do, don't give up. Looking for a job SUCKS, but just keep at it. Keep calling places back, talk to stores that arent advertising that they are hiring, etc. Be the guy that has talked to (Face to face or at least on the phone) EVERY store and company in your city.

Something will come up eventually, just hang in there.

Wow guys, didn't expect this many responses.

To answer the skills question: my family once owned a bookstore so there I ran the cash register (POS systems), inventory control, took account payments, made bank deposits and more odds n ends. I also have worked private / protective security. I had my armed guard license at one time, but have let it expire. I can renew no problem. I was a vault manager for an ATM company, controlled the cash logistics on a daily basis. I have always fallen back on construction when needed. I have no college education unfortunately. Just hs, valedictorian w/ 4.0 GPA. I have also done plenty if admin/clerical work and can manage a pc or Mac fine along with Excel, Word, Outlook and other basic programs.

Thanks again guys...

I'm not in the tri cities....I would be open to anything in Knoxville, Maryville, Seymour, Lenoir City..that general area

Try Home Depot or Lowes. This is their busy time of year. The ones around here were hiring a few weeks ago.

I have submitted 2 apps to both stores...first round was at end of jan and second round was mid April. Never heard back from either store either time. I think I will give them another go however. 3rd time might be a charm!

I would third trying for a tipping job. Waiter at a good place, or parking cars at a nice place, etc can net you around $20 an hour with any luck, and those sorts of jobs are often available. That or the armed guard should get you something with a little bit of luck.

The internet job search is a thing of the past. It was hot back when new, but it became overused -- I can tell you I throw out the resume's that are emailed to me unless the person called first and has expressed interest (rather than paid some robot to mail resumes to everyone in the country). Don't give up on it, but don't rely on it either. A phone call to the right person, word of mouth, or going on walkabout to look for help wanted signs is also in order. Start with any likely places you frequent, and with friends if you have anyone you haven't asked yet.

Best of luck. Its tough out there right now.

+1 again on face-to-face and phone calls. The large majority of company's will ignore emails about jobs.

If you've the gas mileage for it pizza delivery places are almost always hiring drivers. Just don't throw the car toppers around, they don't take that too well.

Didn't get it at first. But that's funny.

I look forward to meeting you tomorrow

Sounds like a step in the right direction. It's great that a few people stepped up and might help a forum member. Again. Good luck on the interview RD.

drummer,

give me a shout if you're in the chattanooga area. I had an entry level QA Tech job come open in my Dept. today.

No promises, as I always hire the most qualified (or people I have a "gut" feeling about) for a job, but if you have a resume, PM me and I'll give you an e-mail address to send it to for my review.
