i hold my head high still though. And growing up in Nashville - Go Vandy!

speaking of lacrosse, the duke players may finally get their: 38 players vs. the university for emotional distress for suppressing evidence and not coming to the aid of their students.

Say what you will about soccer (the most popular youth sport in the US), but its not a 'hit' with TV - not because a lack of fans - but for a lack of corporate sponsorship

I call BS here.

NASCAR is fairly big and there are not set commercial breaks. I know you will say cautions and all, but there are ocassionally races that are caution free. And when they come back from commercials they fill you in on what happened.

Soccer is not big because it is boring. They could televise it and run commercials. You know what, nothing would be missed while they were gone on break. No one cares about it. World Cup generates interest out of non soccer fans because it has some meaning. Meaning drives interest. If there were fans for soccer in general it would be televised.

They don't need commercial breaks in NASCAR because the cars are driving commercials, as is the track, the announcements, and everything else. While there aren't traditional commercial breaks, I don't think you can say NASCAR lacks corporate sponsorship.

All professional sports have corporate sponsorship. All I was saying is that racing does not have set times to have commercials like most stick and ball sports. They do their commercial thing and fill you in on what was missed when they come back. More often than not nothing is missed while they run ads. Heck if I am watching a race half the time I end up falling asleep and wake up fifty laps later or whatever and have not really missed anything.

Just saying a sport not having TV breaks has no bearing on if it is worth televising.

If people wanted to watch it they would show it.

As for football, baseball, and basketball, they have all been around long before there was television.

As said above, NASCRAP has tons of 'commercials' all over the cars and in the names. Remember when it was the Daytona 500? The races were "Darlington", "Bristol" etc? Now they are the Lowe's Advance Auto Intel AT&T 500 brought to you by Kroger / Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Much like Bowl games now.

Soccer is hugely popular in Europe, and even Champions League Soccer (UEFA) is gaining ground on the high-number channels (and HD) in the US.

You obviously don't watch NASCAR. The Daytona 500 has never been called anything but the Daytona 500.

I actually use to watch Nascar, and made trips to 'dega to see it regularly. I've gone out to Richmond, and use to go to the Nashville Fairgrounds racing most Saturday nights. I'm well aware that the 500 is still "The 500", however the rest of the races have ridiculous names filled with sponsors names. That being said, the corporate nonsense and lack of road tracks has left my interest in Nascar at an all time low.

Every time I watch an NFL game, I thank all that is holy that I don't have to see various sponsors across each player's helmet.

I remember when there was controversy because Gulf Oil had a sign in the Astrodome. These days you cant watch a game without green-screen ads behind the batter if you watch on TV.

I also went to a race at Charlotte long before it became Lowe's Motor Speedway. Lowes thought they would get free TV exposure, but one of the networks televising a race refused to use the name of the track until Lowe's bought advertizing time.

I'm just waiting until Neyland Stadium becomes Viagra UT Stadium.

I'm wondering when International Paper is going to buy the Liberty Bowl here in Memphis. FedEx has the Forum, Autozone has the baseball park... Now this football stadium can't be far away.

Anybody know what the "Sommet" company does that has the Arena?

Volunteer orange is distinguishable from other college colors. Blue is a rather common color with other rivals. I'll not mention any names.

Which is odd being that they're complementary and all.

Volunteer orange is only distinguishable in the realm of sports. In the real world it is hard to tell a UT fan from a hunter from a convict on trash duty, although 9 times out of 10 when you have one of the aforementioned traits you have them all :)

haha. i did make sure when picking schools that it offered some 'amenities' that other "Tiger-mascoted' schools did not have.

#1 on the list: Live Tiger.

Schools that have it: LSU and Memphis. I don't like purple either.

I agree, I used to get regular chuckles/laughs from it. Then Tucker Max. Now? Just forums.
