So now the stupid conspiracy theories have started. To really think that the Obama administration would be able to convince thousands of politicians, CIA officials, and American service personnel to go along with this just to boost his approval rating is absurd. If Obama made this all up, it would be the most epic lie in world history and spell instant and total collapse of his political and professional career. It's too big of a story to keep under wraps for long if it were actually a lie. There are far too many Obama critics and political opportunists who would be eager to break this story and destroy him. This is always the fatal flaw in every conspiracy theory. If "two people can keep a secret if one is dead," Obama would have a lot of executions to carry out to keep that lie quiet.

I don't like Obama any more than most of you, but this is just nuts. It makes the Obama critics look like a hoard of crazy paranoid psychotics and is just as bad as the "global warming" goofballs.

I can almost guarantee that pictures will not be released any time soon. Extremists will use them to make him a martyr.

Being buried at sea is a big slap in the face for them also. A muslim is supposed to be buried with their head pointing toward Meccah. Not much of a chance of that when he is fish food. Hopefully they wrapped him in bacon prior to dumping him in the ocean.

The burial at sea makes a lot of sense. First, you obviously can't bury him anywhere on land. That would just be too much of a rallying point for extremists, and there would be far too much risk of grave robbing. Second, you can't cremate him. Cremation is definitely a no-go in terms of Islamic tradition. I know all of you are probably thinking "who gives a sh*t what the Muslims think," but that is a smart move politically in terms of lessening the chances his death can be used as proof that our mission is anti-Islamic. If we are purporting to go after terrorists rather than Muslims, there is no reason for us to dispose of the body in any way that would be a deliberate jab to Muslims. That leaves burial at sea. This has the benefit of denying the particularities of some of the Muslim burial traditions, but with the cover and benefit of being typical in US military situations. We can get in our jab, deny the proper burial, but still make it look like this is business as usual on our end.

As for seeing the body, I suspect some pictures will eventually leak out, but he was supposedly shot twice in the face. Not going to be pretty, and may be tough to visually ID. Will that play in to the conspiracy theories? Perhaps. But as many people have pointed out the stakes are too big to run the risk of someone finding out your lie in a situation like this.

I'm a pretty cynical dude, but for whatever reason I believe this is on the up and up.

Way to go SEALS and CIA. And as much I dislike most of Obama's policies, props on the correct decision.

Whether intentional or not, Obama is getting a boost from this. People are giving all the credit to him saying Bush couldn't do it, so Obama did. The credit goes to our men and women who have fought and died to bring this ****er to justice. Not with the political figureheads. Irrelevant if he's the CIC. If a lab technician creates a cure for cancer, he/she gets the credit, not the CEO of the company who really had no input other than saying "Yeah, sounds good, go ahead and do it".
