Where's Bill Haslam?

This is a rant.

So Governor Pilot Oil was in Chattanooga on the 28th viewing storm damage.

On the 29th he was in Rossville dedicating a railroad facility.

Why hasn't our esteemed governor come to NE TN where we had multiple fatalities? All talk and no action and once again the hillbillies of the State of Franklin are ignored.

rant over.

update: McDonnell made it to SW/VA.

He's a politician. Politicians don't do anything unless there's personal gain involved. Lower your expectations B)

...He's only worried about his oil company and keeping his income secret. I've said all along he's a "snake in in the grass" He's sitting some where thinking on how to make this work to price gouge on fuel. ...

Sadly, there is a lot of truth in this post. My take on Haslam is that he is continuing the Howard Baker/Lamar Alexander school of political correctness; working this way to the senate. Dont expect Haslam to do anything that smacks of favoring any one citizen group (...unless you have lots of money to pass out, or favors to grant...). He will travel around as the opportunity presents it's self, make a few platidudinous remarks, and move on to the next photo op or place where there is a handout or favor.

Remember, upper east tennessee is a traditional Republican stronghold; no need for him to show up there.

With all that said; i still prefer Snozz to socialists like McWerter. Remember, everything is a deal and an opportunity to a polititian. That's exactly why statesmen are so scarce and valuable. Cheezy polititians are a dime a dozen; and we've got plenty enough of them to go around.

I've seen this question posted several places. I don't know. It would seem like the perfect opportunity to up his political clout. Like Bobby Jindal did in Louisanna.

Certainly haven't seen any headlines about Haslam. It's disappointing to Knoxville condering that's his home town.

I agree. That's why I am as confused as I am PO'd.

Ya need to remember that the Knoxville News Sentinel is a rabidly Socialist Demorat rag; as are most all the other newspaper outlets in the state. They will never pass out any "attaboys" other than those that make Haslam or any other Republican look like a moderate, or even worse; a Demorat. The most you can expect from them is to "urge" the governor to do the right thing; the usual socialist drivel. That actually makes it hard for Haslam to develop any platform or "voice" from which to make any pronounce that smacks of a "less government, more freedom" type platform. There is no doubt in my mind that Haslam is working overtime not to offend any constituency, from the rabid socialists, to the radical libertarians. That is exactly what his mentors (....Baker and Alexander...) would do. There is nothing charismic or statesman like in Haslam. He couldn't even bring himself to denounce the Christian-Newsome murders very publically when he was mayor of Knoxville. Haslam is no more a statesman than i am an aviator. His dad has evidently bought his political seat to get him out from under foot. The good news is, at least he is a capitalist. I firmly believe that you will have to wait another gubanitorial term or two to get a real "pro Tennessee" candidate.

Leroy, it's the internet and we are suppose to argue but I can't argue with any of that. especially about the Knoxville news paper. It is such a joke. My dad rabidly HATED that paper and I mean 40 years ago he despised it.

I don't even check it on the web anymore cause #1 it's crap and #2 I don't want to give them any hits.

But it does seem like if Haslam was visiting places and making much of a speech at all the news would mention it. I don't think he even mobilized the guard. Does he even know he can do that?

Well I guess a non-governor is better than most other options. I'm sure when it comes to big business he will have an opinion.

I know exactly how you and your dad before you feels. The Knox News Sentinel is a dispicable bunch; and always have been. They are part of the Scripps- Howard syndicate. All noted socialist wags.

That's what he was doing on the 29th'

Please forgive me for this link to the commie Appeal...

Forgiven. Glad he has his priorities straight.

Sorry, I didn't vote for him. Lately I can't bring myself to vote, it sickens me. I know if you don't vote you can't complain but I still do complain.

This just appeared on WBIR. Maybe he didn't want to get rash and jump the gun. Maybe he's just slow at determining what a disaster is.

Unfortunately, in these circumstances no one will feel properly served. I can assure you that the Governor has been in contact with the Senators and Representatives of each affected district If you Reps have done their jobs, they have been in contact with your local administration and public safety officials. . He has spent the days since the storm visiting the areas most hard hit, and instructed his staff to do whatever is necessary to assist in any possible way.

If you feel that your area has not been properly responded to, I would urge you to contact either your local representation (city or county mayor) or Representative or Senator.

O I'm sure he or his staff have indeed been in touch with other politicians or staff. If not he would be in breach of his responsibilities. I'm talking about a lack of respect or empathy or possibly just plain old common decency. These are things we expect our governor to do. And..I'll remind you that McDonnell managed to get down to Glade Spring.

Seems in poor taste to me.

Sorry, but I am dismantling your arguments out of order. Please understand.

Who else would you have him contact?

I am not an apologist for anyone, but just trying to interject a little common sense into the discussion. Tennessee was hit hard by these storms, and across a broad range of communities. You can't possibly expect one person to visit each community that incurred damage.

I think Franklin should succeed from the union, at least consider sub dividing TN into a a 4th state. We need another Star. At leave you would get some attention over there.
