Possible 1000' Foot Rule????

I was reading through the bill above, and while the intent does not seem to be to create a 1000' foot rule, it seems that an ambitious prosecutor could interpret it that way.

Well, it seems to me that the intent is to create a 1000ft. rule, even though it doesn't word it that way. At least this does not create any new laws, but serves to create a sentence enhancement for crimes committed in those areas.

Calling it a "Crime Free Zone" is quite hilarious. Why doesn't Hardaway just amend his bill to make everywhere a "Crime Free Zone." There...........problem solved. No more crime.

Have you seen where the school bus stops lately? I remember walking to the bus stop and waiting out in the rain and cold with my friends as a kid. No more. Lord help you if you get stuck behind a bus in the morning in our neighborhood. They stop at every other house. These kids may as well have their own car service.

If you're including bus stops, you won't get outside of a 1000' radius in Nashville. I expect this applies to other major cities as well.

As MacGyver stated, TN has no such law. You have to be on the property itself.

Hardaway's bill only serves as a sentence enhancement.......not creating any new violations.

The better question isn't why are they so important... but why they are so unimportant that we won't allow law abiding adults to carry for their protection. At least 1 school shooting was stopped early by an adult going and getting their legally owned handgun and stopping the gunman.

I don't believe this means you can't carry legally within 1000 feet of the mentioned locations. It is repealing the Drug free school zone law and replacing it with the same plus other crimes committed within 1000 feet. It's an enhancement and typically used by the DA for the plea to the original felony charge.
