PMI PMP Certification

Just curious if anyone here is Project Management Professional certified through PMI?

I'm always looking at more ways to make myself more valuable in the "marketplace", and just finished my Lean Six Sigma Black Belt cert. Considering all the project management involved in LSS, I thought this may be a natural progression before pursuing Master Black Belt certification. Anyway, looking for more info on this, and whether it seems like you got your money's worth from the cert, what to expect from testing, and if any real knowledge was gained (unlike ASQ certs, sorry if anyone here is ASQ - been there / done that / still certified QA Manager, but found that I disagree with a large portion of their assertions).

Anyway, any PMP experiences would be greatly appreciated!

No one? I know we have a contingent of engineers on this board (must be something in the tinkering / build it better / screw it up nature that draws us to firearms?), and was asking because a lot of Project Managers at different companies are PMP certified. Just thought some of you guys here may be, as well.

We had about 20 people go through the 40 hour prep course, then eventually take the PMP exam. Only 2-3 passed (not including me). The material is not that complicated, but proving your project time qualification is a pain, and the exam is a absolute mind-****. Even with the PIMBOK exam guide, and a serious effort, I was 3-4 points short (with 20 years of PM experience).

It is of course timed, and in a proctored setting, but in our case, the noise and distractions from other people was horrible even with ear muffs (take your own ear plugs.

Like many certs, it is a exercise in your proficiency of exam taking as much as anything.

I did not elect to pay the $ to take it a second time, as our major gov facility did not do PM in a fashion even close to PMI (which is a bit strange, but OK)

If a company actually uses the method, and pays for it, then go for it.
