Am I the only one who really doesn't care about what direction my thread takes?

After the Glock thumb safety thread and a couple of comments from people other than the OP regarding the direction the thread went in, I couldn't help but think to myself, "so what?" I really don't give a flip where my threads go once I start them. If people take it where I don't want to go, then I bow out and let people run with it. The only place where I care is in the Trading Post where people make unsolicited comments from people criticizing the item or the price being asked. Other than that, I figure a forum is about free expression of ideas within the rules of conduct. Am I the only person that feels this way?

It depends. Sometimes it can get annoying if I just need a simple answer and someone starts rambling on about irrelevant info.

I don't care either. If I'm looking for a specific answer, I may make multiple attempts to get an answer. If a thread sparks a good discussion, then it's a successful thread in my book.

You seem to be under the mistaken impression that there is ever a time to NOT talk about pancakes and waffles.

My [non-virtual] friends and I can start out talking about beer and end up talking about American history. We have known each other for so long (almost thirty years, now) and have been around each other so much that we can sometimes discuss two or three topics all at once. My wife says that she has stopped even trying to follow our conversations when we do that. A formal discussion usually sticks to the topic at hand, I guess. A good conversation addresses that topic and then, after the topic has been addressed, may follow a natural progression from topics related to the original topic to completely unrelated topics. Most of the time, I like when the threads I start behave more like a conversation.

One of the thnings I've said about the internet for years: "I love internet forums. You ask how much is 2 plus 2 but you get a discussion about why multiplication is better then division."
