Looking for something a little more stable than a hotel if possible. I'm going to be there for 6 months at least maybe longer.

I'm looking at a place in Rossville, GA that's only about 20 minutes from the yard according to google maps.

MAP

Any opinions?

I grew up there...I would live far away...like Cleveland.

wouldn't your TN carry permit become void if you established residence in GA for that period of time? Or no?

I'm keeping my address and residence in Nashville.

Hi Mike

Old 82 year old dad lives a few miles farther down that road. I drive on it about once a week but do not consider myself an expert on the neighborhood. It is not rural but it is more rural than city. More trees than houses. It gives the impression of being rural.

Some areas closer in to Rossville look like they've been turning into Mexico lately. I'm not trying to hurt any feelings or be snobby, just honest-- Some parts of Rossville look like a run-down small town. Ain't sayin that is bad, just the way it looks.

I wouldn't mind living out on that Park City Road or some of the surrounding burbs, but probably wouldn't want to live near "downtown Rossville." Old Dad's neighborhood a little farther down the road is sparsely populated, woods and a few houses. Dunno much about that 910 area except driving thru weekly.

The road as far as I know may have been "integrated" even back in the old days of segregation. Since it isn't really rural, you can't call it "country", but the people I've met seem overall nice. Maybe half down-home whites and half down-home blacks who seem to get along together fine. Maybe it is different around 910, but Dad's closest neighbors are older middle class black folk and they all get along well. Dad suspects that one of the neighbors is a street pharmacist. He even gets along fine with the putative street pharmacist.

Some of the houses are in good shape and some of them look run-down. It kinda hearkens back to the old days when you would see fancy houses and humble houses side by side in the same neighborhood, whereas in modern times most places are "economically segregated" with entire fancy neighborhoods and entire humble neighborhoods.

I wouldn't mind living out there, assuming one didn't get unlucky and accidentally move in beside a neighbor from hell. But you can find neighbors from hell about anywhere if you get unlucky. As far as I know that road is not a high-crime area. After nightfall there is hardly any traffic on the road and streetlights are few and far between.

Just saying, nobody is gonna mistake it for a "fancy" neighborhood, in case a person would require his neighborhood to be "fancy". Don't matter to me as long as it isn't violent or disorderly.

I have several friends that live in and around that neighborhood. It's a pretty nice and relaxed area. And quiet.

That map say's "Rossville" but it's really Walker county. Rossville is just a small crack-pot town with crooked politics, cops that like pulling you over for going 36 in a 35, and meth labs. I would not recommend moving any closer to Rossville then that.

Down in "the city" of Fort-O you will find everything you could want. Plenty of restaurants (sit down and fast food), shopping, a WalMart where you can get shot over a tomato... You have a couple of Bi-Los, Food Lion, an Aldi (sp), Big Lots, a couple of smoke shops. Just about anything really. If you have kids, there is a really nice park\playground.

No bars or adult hangouts in Fort-O. There are some over on Rossville Blvd in Chattanooga but I would not go to one. Actually, go check one out! You might like them!

I'll second Lester on the diversity of the income\homes. I know one couple that lives just off of Park City. Really nice ranch style home. Every house on their street has a pool. Everything is just homely. Nothing too fancy, but still very nice. Have another friend that lives on W. Schmitt in an old run down trailer. You could hit a golf ball from one back yard to the other. If you stop for gas at the little Favorite Market, you may pull up next to a Bimmer or a Pinto...

Yep if you can't find it on the strip in Fort-O you probably don't need it. Also got a Home Depot, Tractor Supply, Radio Shack, and either a Staples or Office Depot (can't remember which). Fort-O is only a couple of miles away from that Park City Road.

Dad says you ought to be careful to follow the speed limit signs on that road.

Strick is right-- Maybe the bars in Rossville are just fine, but they don't look just fine. I've been in some of them years ago and they looked pretty rough like you could get in trouble if you were not careful. And maybe get in trouble even if you ARE careful.
