HCP waiting time

I took my Wal-Mart trip today and also went to the Sportsman store in Dickson.

We should have a 'trooping', when folks get their cards on the same day or so, get together and troop to a particular Wally World, buy bullets, group photo, the works - Wally World has a photography kiosk for taking family portraits and such. How cool would that be? Remember that scene in 'The Jerk' when Steve Martin gets the new telephone book and is all worked up because his name is in it. "I'm somebody!" he says. Now if we could only find an all-night range . . .

Mine arrived today. I filed the application Nov. 20, was printed two days later, and the issue date on the permit itself is Dec. 11 -- so, 21 days from start to finish. No phone calls, no prompting.

Pretty good turnaround, as far as I'm concerned.

I believe this is the best I have heard so far, without a phone call...

Yeah, I'm a little caught off-guard.:D Though I've purchased some accoutrements -- a tuckable holster, an IWB, for example -- I hadn't yet dug out the old clothing from before some recent weight loss, or bought a proper 'carry' belt. I'd figured sometime into the new year, at best. Had planned to call Lisa Knight tomorrow.

I picked the permit out of my post-office box on my way to my second, part-time job yesterday, so didn't have an arm with me. As a schoolteacher, hiding a gun in my vehicle in a school lot is (though I may get more comfortable about it later), simply, not worth losing my job -- so, I've yet to actually legally carry! Thinking about strolling down to the gym next door in a little while, just so I can carry a pistol in my coat pocket:D...

Okay, gonna tell a tale on myself:p. I did just what I suggested, spending a minute or so in front of a mirror to assure myself that my Bersa 9mm UltraCompact didn't 'print' in my inside jacket pocket. The jacket hung in a (padlocked) locker during the 45-60 minutes I spent working out, and halfway home (on foot) I realized I'd never chambered a round! So, essentially, I'd been unarmed the whole time anyway.:)

Anyway, I thought about arming the pistol right then and there, but had pause about my exposed position, in the middle of an apartment complex. And, sure enough, about 15 paces later, I greeted a woman walking her dog, who'd certainly have heard the slide had I racked it when I pondered it. As it was, she greeted me pleasantly enough (can't help but wonder how that would've gone had I aurally announced my armed status.)

Almost as soon as I got inside my own door, I chambered a round and set the easy-to-disarm safety.

So, did I actually carry concealed, or not?:P

Sure, but,

<Bad Euphemisms>

You went off half-cocked.

An armed BG would have had battle of wits with an unarmed opponent.

You re-defined "safe action trigger".

</Bad Euphemisms>

Oh well, that's what shakedown cruises are all about. ('course, you could have been shook down).

Wow, I crack myself up. :P

Are you Israeli? If not you would have been screwed!;):P;):P

Disclaimer: I say this because they carry with one not in the chamber and can draw and rack the slide and fire in one very quick motion and are very good at it. There should be some videos on the interweb that will demonstrate.

it gets better, you will get more comfortable with it and develop a routine. Before too long, it will be come second nature.

I just called and now they are saying "it's still in process" when they told me they would issue on the 8th. Im getting irritated.
Jung, I would too.

It's like feeling naked without something on the waist or ankle, etc.

So, after I get my HCP, do I understand that the proper protecall is to strap on the firearm, go to walmart, buy some nachos and then buy some ammo??? I want to make sure I continue the cult following on this. :)

Yes, because statistically, Wal-Mart visit offers you one of the better chances to actually NEED it. Be sure to linger in the parking lot for at least an hour to maximize your chances!

So it takes 90 days after you get finger printed done?

Posted

They have up to 90 days to issue. It seems like it has taken alot less recently.

I was very fortunate, i applied for my permit around the first week of november and i made the routine call at the beginning of the third week of waiting and they said it was processed and sould recieve it any day. I think it was exactly 26 days from the time of application.

Got any little legal bugaboos in the past, even if they are not now disqualifying ?

Have you moved several times in last few years, particularly between diff states or counties?

On the other hand, it's only been about 7 weeks for ya ... a couple of months ago, hardly anybody got issued in that time.

*i seem to have misread or you edited quick so disregard the part that was here*

I do not have any legal issues in the last seven years.

I lost my DL for getting several speeding tickets and an accident when i was ~19-20.

I have passed a bg check for a metro police dept app., a us army enlistment bg check x 2, and a us gov secret clearance check.
