FN FNP-9 Range Report

Well, finally got to go to the range and put some rounds (250) through the FNP. All I can say is I like it....I like it a lot! It Took a little adjusting, as I am used to single actions (HP, XD with a nice trigger job), but even with that I shot more consistently than with my former XD. Tighter groups as well. No Problems at all.

PROS:

- Aesthetics. very nice looking pistol. Fits me very well. Nice but not flashy. All the things I want and not a lot of "gadget" novelties I don't need or care about.

- Workmanship is excellent. The gun is very well made. No tooling marks or unfinished edges.

- Sights. Low profile and easy to pick up.

- Trigger -nice trigger. DA and SA broke cleanly and evenly and were consistent. A little more take up then I would have liked, but i think I can remedy that fairly easily.

- Magazines - came with 3. A good thing since they are $36 a piece. All three worked without any problems.

- Backstraps - comes with two. A flat and an arched. For me the flat one was horrible. It created sharp pints in my grip that became very noticeable during recoil. Arched one was very nice.

- Accuracy - I was very pleased with this guns accuracy with many different ammo types. When I did my part it hit where it pointed consistently.

- Modular - don't know I'd need to, but the rails and internals are all serviceable and removable. A big plus is the rails aren't molded in so the can be changed very easily.

- Price - I don't think you can get this quality in any other gun in the price range. mine was $439 (shipped) and I've seen them from CDNN at times for $349. In fact Browning sells this gun re-named the Pro-9 in the $650+ range.

CONS:

- Holsters - there aren't hardly any. Blade-Tech makes them.

- Magazines - they're $36-$40 a piece! Also due to the large mag well (a plus for reloading) requires a unusually large base plate (negative for carrying a spare).

- Parts? Haven't seen a need for them, but I don't know how widely they are available.

- Decocker - feels rather flimsy and could be a little tighter to the frame.

In short I think this is one of the best guns no one knows. Marketing is starting to come along, so maybe the secret will get out. Until then I relish the fact that I have a great gun, at a great price, that I really like.

A few more pictures of the insides. Pardon the grit. I didn't get a chance to clean her yet.

wow! nice!

I feel your pain about the holster. My wife has a magnum research baby eagle that needs a good leather holster.

you can probably call a local maker and get one made, or ask some of the guys on the board for contacts.

I have one here that I wanted to call and see about..perhaps this will help?

NK Simpson gunleather . custom fitted, hand sewn and hand boned.

thats if you like leather..I don't know about Kydex.

Thanks for the report!
