Chinese T-53

In case any one is interested: Shylocks Pawn in Clinton has two T-53's. $99 +t and t. It's positively horrible and missing the Mag front screw.

The other is 149. +t and t and it's pretty nice. I think one is a 1956 and the other is a 1960 (maybe)

They have a very strange SKS and one pretty normal norinco.

where is that place?

I stopped at South Clinton Pawn ( IIRC the name, senile sometimes) At any rate S C Pawn had lots of guns but they were very proud of them and prices appeared to be MSRP, crazy.

i'll have to stop there next time i go through Clinton, I know which one it is. Looks kind of dumpy, like a pawn shop should

I paid 130.00 for my T-53 and it is pretty beat up. They are pretty rare in good shape so the 149.00 is a good price, if it is matching numbered that would be a great price. 99.00 is about right for beat up.

I wouldn't mind having the Norinco..it's better looking than mine and it matched...the weird one is longer and plastic

250$ +t+t...they will dicker...mine was 251.41 out the door

Did any one go buy one of these? I'm getting new old gun itch! The 99$ seems like a cheap fix. I'll admit it does look awful!

Wanting to look at the nicer Norinco but cant seem to find the time with work. Besides have to sell a Mossberg 500 first. Just ordered my CMP Garand and a Hungarian M44 so the gun fund is empty till that one sells. Had an all matching Norinco that I traded away and am now wishing I didnt. 99.00 is a good price for that T-53. You can always replace it with a better one when it comes along. Thats what I am doing with my trashed out T53.

Don't think of it as being trashy, think of it as having history, and stories to tell!

Story my T53 tells is "ridden hard and put away wet". Missing extractor, muzzle wear that will swallow a bullet, stock looks like it was made out of driftwood and receiver and barrel completely "patina'd" for lack of a better word. I wont shoot it but it does fill a hole in my M44 collection until a better one comes along.

They won't let you take them apart first....well, they won't let me, probably because I found a couple of unsafe guns on their rack.

What I've come to notice about T53s is that for some reason they just don't sell. They seem to be worth around $200 for a good one, however noone ever seems to pay it. There's been several for sale on here, and they tend to just sit until the price drops to ridiculous levels or they just decide to keep it. I know of a few dealers that have been carrying the same ones around to show after show too, and they never seem to move. Don't know what it is, all they are is an m44 with different markings and different wood in the stock, but everyone oohs and ahs but never buys them for whatever reason.

Its the curse of the Chinese junk. People think (in this case and others) if it was made by the Chinese, it is made quickly, without a thought to safety, and done cheaply. This impacts the sell of good rifles made in China.
