Caught a copperhead...or maybe a water moccasin......really a kingsnake

Recommended Posts

For the snake lovers in the group here is a baby I caught today in my back yard. Measured right at a foot long. It's a kingsnake I believe.

My 3 year old son just had to hold it.

your son doesn't look to happy.

After looking at the picture closely I believe it IS a water moccasin :drama:

;)

I promise he asked to hold it even though the look on his face suggest otherwise. He wouldn't even let me release the snake, he had to be the one who did it.

You know every snake in Tennessee is either a rattlesnake, a copperhead, or a water moccasin and since this one doesn't have a rattle it must be one of the other two.

I can't identify snakes, except a rattler would be pretty easy.

Being the kind of fellow who would never eat a wild mushroom regardless whether it looked OK, would similarly be reluctant to handle a small kingsnake. I would not trust that it was not a coral snake who got confused about what order its stripes should be in. :D

A kingsnake too big to be a coral snake, I might handle.

Man, you really hurt me by hating on my team like that. :drama:

I'm pretty sure it was an eastern kingsnake like this one:
