I went to the gun store today and they have a "disaster kit" put together by S&W , how much good would have that done in New Orleans when NOPD went out and confiscated all the registered guns:mad:. The only "dissaster gun" is the one they don`t know you have ,so they can`t take it from you....tip of the day..register all guns but keep at least one berried in closet unregistered JMHO..

Let's pose a related question...

How many of you have a disaster kit ready? After the tornados we had recently, I've had to revisit the issue... To be clear, I'm not asking how many people have an unregistered gun stashed, as that's a question I wouldn't answer myself... Just wondering how many people have a 'ready-kit' set up.

Well considering none of my guns are registered, I guess you could say they are all "stashed", but other than that, I have a few of the necessities to hole up for a bit.

I have a tupperware style tub full of the necessities; windup radio/flashlight, glowsticks, big old first aid kit, matches, lighters, can opener, some canned foods, it is in the "tornado" closet under the stairs, in the pantry where we keep the food and lots of water, the closet is also full of blankets and pillows and such, with extra bicycle helmet for my kids to wear. We also keep a suitcase full of clothes, shoes and such...I can also protect if necessary.

Even if TN started its registry, I wouldnt even register mine.

There is no such thing as firearms registration in Louisiana, with the exception (pretty sure) with certain machine guns that must be registered with the Louisiana secretary of state. You can openly carry a firearm down there without a license. New Orleans (though they may not like it) must follow state law.

If the power and water went out right now, I wouldn't need to leave my yard for 12 months.

Thanks!

It's not always fun doing the animal chores when it's below freezing, but it's worthwhile to me to feed my kids good meat and eggs.

Actually, we posted on this in another thread before. The TBI in TICS process does not keep these records. If approved, the records are destroyed within 24 hours. If not approved, they keep your records until your appeal (assuming you filed one) is complete.

The seller/dealer on the other hand is required to keep them for "x" amount of time according to the State.

Other than that, there is no gun registry in TN.

and you believe that? do you think that "big brother" doesn`t have a record of the guns sold at the gun stores? in this time of computer wizards, you think that they don`t know who bought the gun? it takes probably 5 seconds to typ SSN in computer and file a serial# of the gun under that SSN...I don`t know , you might be right, but..somehow I doubt that...they are even talking about serial# on the bullets...

the batf(u) has been caught several times keeping records of firearms transactions. they've grudgingly destroyed them..but they're lax about everything they do concerning recordkeeping...unless its someone else's records..then they shut them down for .04 errors in 2 years!

heh..I wouldn't bet my life on the idea that they didn't have a record of all gun transactions...

Back to the subject of this post...

I have a disaster pack that includes enough essentials (food, water, ponchos, thermal blanklets, radio, matches, etc.) to last my family of 5 for 6-7 days and enough guns and ammo to last a whole lot longer!!!

I never said I believe they do that, I was reporting what they said they did.

Do they keep records, quite possibly, there are a lot of things "big brother" does that I have no control over.

If you have small children you already have some sort of survival kit. Diapers can make great pressure bandages. Butt wipes are great for cleaning things up. That lovely antibacterial hand wash is always a plus. That and the tons of other gear you have to have for their snotty little noses.

Keep a well stocked pantry and plenty of ammo. In the event of an emergency, the toilet tank water is safe to drink. I also like to fill up the giant whirlpool tub with water. No one can bathe in it but it is at least 50 gallons of water. Good for each person for several days.

Ammo? I got some. Guns, yep a few that have been handed down from generation to generation that are in serviceable condition.

Don't forget your hot water tank. As long as you shut off the city water before it gets contaminated you've got 30+ gallons of potable water right there.
