New DNC chief wants to screen all gun sales

The new head of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) is pushing for screenings of all gun purchases.

Putting aside for the moment the simple fact that no free citizen should need government "permission" to sell his/her private property; this perhaps might make sense if background checks were actually effective in keeping firearms out of the hands of criminals, but they are not.

Even the BATF says that the primary sources of guns used in crimes are such things as straw purchases, disreputable FFL dealers and other such activities that (very) effectively circumvent the background system...then, of course, there is the problem of weapons stolen by criminals and then kept and used in future crimes or sold illegally.

Forcing more people thorough a broken system could only make sense to someone with little to no sense and will only, as with virtually all "gun laws", impact the law-abiding while leaving the criminals free continue as always.

I wonder if this country, and more specifically, perhaps well-intentioned but nevertheless clueless legislators will ever start focusing on the actual problem (crime and criminals) rather than focusing on the tools they use to ply their trade???

Thanks for posting this interesting read. Looks to me like the DNC is continuing their "Death Wish" campaign -- like the "lemmings jumping into the sea"... . I see this one as another non-starter.

Let's hope we're right.

Thanks again.

Yep. I say let them flap their jaws about it until they become extinct.

Oh lordy...I'm a Democrat and I have guns....Baja...you'ze a baaad boy

I was a Democrat until a couple years ago. I'm independent now however since I realized both the red and blue sides are money craving lunatics who will do nothing more than extort and throw stones at one another.

Now pertaining to the subject matter at hand, I'm in agreement that background checks are nothing more than a waste of time and money. (both of which for us) It's mainly a tool to keep the bed wetters and soccer moms feeling safe at night.

Another liberal "Commiecrat" with a dream. The Democratic party has to purge itself of these nutjobs.

Agreed. However there are zealots on both sides of the fence that simply need to be removed.

I've had it with both parties...I stopped calling myself a Republican about 20 years or so ago...I still vote Republican most of the time but that's only because most conservatives are, or at least run as Republicans.

I'd say no one should be allowed to spend more than 8-12 years in local/state office and no more than another 8 years at the Federal level (if they reach that level) - the whole concept of a "career politician" is an insult to folks with real jobs.

This is a great observation. I'm exactly the same way. They are all (...for the most part...) a bunch of liars and crooks; that's why you need to keep a close watch on them. My 21 year old has turned me from a cynical Republican to a "radical libertarian". I say "throw the whole lot of 'em out!!...". The republicans are just as at fault for screwing things up fiscally and from an individual liberties point of view as any of the Demorats.

Keep up the good work.
