I've tried just about every method there is for mole eradication, and the two-shovel method works best. When you see the dirt moving as Mr. Mole is heading down his tunnel, block his path with shovel 1. Use shovel 2 to bring him to the surface, and then, still using shovel 2, whomp the piss out of him.
