Favorite 10mm hand load

Recommended Posts

Found a new favorite 10mm hand load, don't do this at home since it is over the max loading posted on Hodgdons web site.

Nosler 200gr JHP

8.0gr IMR 800-X powder (max is 7.8gr which is not bad)

Starline brass

CCI #300 primer

Glock 20SF

No signs of over pressure at all, good recoil.

Barks a little bit, would probably bite too if you caught it.

DMark, actually it is very mild in recoil out of the G20SF. I have found that IMR 800-X is a mild recoiling powder from the Glock.

My only 10mm is a Delta Elite. I have yet to find a "respectful" load for it that doesn't also recoil with alot of "respect." :death:

One of these days I need to try a G20, I've always heard that they are a better 10mm platform.

Your fighting physics DMark,.. equal and opposite reaction.... you get "respect" on both ends... go with a 6" 1911 or a compensator that is efficient and you can bend the law though.. 6" slide (body at rest tends to stay at rest).. or a compensator ( equal and opposite ) against the first equal and opposite...

most 10mm loads in the manuals are nothing more than the FBI Lite loads... a chrono and good reloading notes along with a supported barrel will make this round stand up and shout

When I run out of Winchester Super Lite,.. I am looking at AutoComp powder to run in my Delta Elite with a 5 1/2" BarSto with a dual port compensator ( yeah its that old think 1990 or so ) I am looking at some 180 XTPs if I ever go handgun hunting with it.. if they weren't so scarce I have 20 rounds of the old Norma 200 gr. FPs also some Cor-Bon 150s @ 1300 and an old Nosler 135 load @ 1450

DoubleTap Ammo posts some interesting numbers also but haven't tried any yet..

Scary thing is ,.. those old Norma loads in this gun shoot flat, fast and accurate,...too bad they are collectors items these days...I think I also have a partial box of the 170-175s somewhere too..

John,

I hear ya. Most of the factory loads out there might as well be 40S&W - - - and we all know where that round came from. :bowrofl:

Double Tap is my DE's "Service Load" when I think Big Bears might be in the woods.

AND, to this Liberal Arts major..., Double Tap provides a very serious physics lesson! Feels like somebody is bashing my hands with a baseball bat. :(

Due to the weather today and the fact that I was off from work, I tried my hand at reloading 10mm for the first time.  I guess I was too use to 40S&W, and actually struggled with the initial die setup.  But after a few glitches, I recovered, and I reloaded 100 shells.  Range brass, CCI large pistol primers, 12.2gr Accurate #9, and Rainer 180gr fmj using Lee 40S&W dies.  If it rains tomorrow, I hope I can go try these at my local indoor range using my recently acquired Glock 20 Gen2.  I have heard a lot about 10mm, I just have never shot one.
