Do it yourself 2-gun

So yesterday I finally got an event put together. I've been wanting to hold my own event for a few friends for quite awhile now. Altogether there were 8 of us. Which is good for learning purposes. I invited 10, so 7 showing is actually better than I expected. Now of course I wanted this to be as safe as possible. I had course guidelines we all followed. A few things I learned from a friend of mine that is in the know, such as grounding weapons, and range master calls. Anyhow, we had 3 stages. Two pistol, one rifle. I set up targets at various heights and depths, and had obstructions to shoot around and manuever through while shooting for the pistol stages. The rifle stage was set up for .22s. We had 3 irons to hit and 2 paper targets at 50 yards. We timed each other and scored, using official IDPA targets.

Everything went great. We all had a blast, burned alot of powder and most importantly, nobody put holes in anything that wasn't suppose to get holes in it. Only thing is, you wish you had 5 times as much stuff setup after you run the course the first time. Truly alot of fun!

Glad you had some fun. Now that you have a taste of competition you might look into the clubs in the area that host monthly shoot. Try rangeissafe.com for match schedules. We are fortunate to have USPSA, IDPA, 3-Gun, and Cowboy action in this area as well as access to very good local instructors who teach self defense and competition classes.

We have 7+ac in N. Wilson county. I've set up my own el-cheapo tactical .22lr and shotgun course. A dozen bright painted water/juice bottles hung from tree branches with 1/2 a dozen steel spinner targets makes great fun for my M-4 with .22lr bolt and my Saiga S-12. Both have Holosights and adjustable stocks. Running around at 25-35yds shooting from any position or on the run makes great sport!!!!

My Step-son from LA was in a few weeks ago and after 75rnds of 12ga and a brick of .22lr life doesn't get much better. A time to remember and great bonding time.

BTW with all the wet weather they are predicting a bumper crop of TICKS. 20lbs of Bug-B-Gone goes a LOOONG way.
