I was kind of disappointed with Francisco's role,

but I think his will get more active in pt. 2. They cast

all of them really well, but I was hoping to hear more

from Frisco. He had a great role in the book.

I'll have to watch it eventually. The book was slow as hell to start, but once it got going it flowed pretty well. I read it years ago, and found a copy at the hostel in Maine after I finished my AT thru hike. Hikers leave books for people to take and read, I found them in shelters all along the AT. I read it at home then gave it to a friend.

Well...It was well thought out and does deserve a place in the history book unlike other drivel that for some reason is a "classic." Everyone who reads should at least give it a shot. I just didn't take it as a real life proposition as many people do. More of a caricature in the same genre of 1984.

My favorite summary of the book goes like this.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year old's life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

It was one of, well maybe, the best book I've ever read. I wish I read it 30 years ago.

If you liked AS you should give The Fountainhead a try. It was the forerunner to AS and while not the exact same theme, it's still a good read. Apparently there was a movie made of the Foutainhead with Gary Cooper back in the 50s. Gonna see if I can find a copy somewhere.

For those of you who don't think you can wade through AS you might try the audio version, or there is also an abridged version on audio that's only about 10 hours long. I listened it it first some years ago, then got the full audio book, which is about 60 hours.

As long as it was, I don't think I would read an abridged version. I love reading, and have never cared for abridged books. Of course, I read Tom Clancy novels and 1400 page fantasy novels as well.

6.8, I think you would like the Sword of Truth novels, it is fantasy style, but he echoes a lot of the same sentiments. It is a 13 book series though.

They cast Wesley Mouch perfectly, but don't you think Leon Panetta would have been great in that role?

well I saw it friday, thought it was an excellent movie. They were able to take a book written in the 1950s and perefectly set it in modern times.

The only thing I will say is towards the end you could tell they were pressed for time. The scene in which they went to Wisc to the motor company was rushed big time. other than that, great start. This will be the type of movie that gets better and better because it will get more and more funding

Thanks, I'll look into them. I have read all of Clancy's stuff. Great books.

I doubt one could abridge AS, if anyone has. It would turn out confusing to me, after reading it several times. I'm

still scratching my head why I didn't pick up Heinlein's books until recently, thanks to a few folks around here.
