M44 question

I'm not a big Mosin guy but a guy made me an offer for an M44 the other day and I wanted some experienced input. He wants 200 for it and the Bayonet has been removed and he can't find it. I heard taking the bayonet off degrades the accuracy of the weapon. Is this true or an internet myth?

If it is a run of the mill Russian M44 200.00 would be too much, however if it is a Polish, Hungarian, or Chinese T-53 it could be worth that or more depending on condition and originality. Bayonets can be had fairly cheaply if that is the only modification made to it. Before you dismiss it as not worth it check it over good and make sure it is not one of the rarer models, if it is matching numbered and not modified beyond repair or restoration. Also it wont be too long the ways things are going where 200.00 would be too much for a Russian. Think of it this way, you did not pay too much, you just bought it too early.

Well I honestly have no interest whatsoever in collecting Mil-surps. I'm just looking to get a cheap beater that makes more noise and bigger holes than a .22. That being said it seems like this isn't a very good deal as stated so far. Thanks for the heads up guys.

if you just want a rifle for banging away with get a 91-30. AIM has them for 69.95, so I am guessing you can find something for under 100 bucks in your area.

You say that now. Wait until you get one. When that bug bites, it usually bites hard.
