AGREED. I am VERY pro gun. I FINALLY got my HCP and it feels good. My friends think it's bizarre that I argue for gay rights while waving my NRA card.

Well there's where you're different from the stereotypical Democrat in the first place. You don't assume that one has to do with the other. Most of the Democrats that are so fervently anti-gun also assume that anyone who is not a Democrat is automatically a homophobic racist, etc. etc. Maybe you're actually a Republican or better yet a Libertarian and just don't know it yet.

You forgot some things.

I tried, but I couldn't resist. You do realize they make double stack 1911s? My EDC 2011 holds 17 rds of 9mm. Also, there are double stack subcompact 1911s with a polymer grip and aluminum frame weighing just 23 oz.

In regards to democrats, I don't really have a problem with them as long as they are not in control of the government. :)

I carry my lil ole SR9c, and I like it. With 11 rounds in it, it's heavy enough to leave a big knot on the jaw of any bad guys that I can throw it at.

It's the corner that "Ralph G. Briscoe" got booted into. Do a search.

His last post was on a thread locked, apparently, over someone posting a "who watches the watchmen" photo. A lively debate, until a moderator vs. poster scuffle derailed it.

"Ralph" is a personal friend of mine; a whack job, but a good guy at heart. What folks here didn't know, he's really David Hungate, world renowned bassist with Toto. Currently traveling with Vince Gill.

Wow, nut job huh? Was there some contagion from the rain down in Africa that affects his brain or what?

....sorry.:)

Not really a nut job, just a devout communist from what I've seen from him. I'm sure lots of communists are perfectly good people.

Not really interested in the republican vs democrat thing, that is interesting for people who go for teams, more interested in the who is going to protect my rights thing.

Barack promised a lot on that front but hasn't delivered. Gitmo is still here, weird spying is still going on. To me, as far as rights go, the democrats and republicans are in a race to take my rights away. The only question is who will get there faster.

I bought Africa off of iTunes.

I can see where he is coming from as far as his views and being a Democrat.

Let me say this. In the line of work I do or at least used to do Democrats are a rarity, a lot of our clients were but not the gun toters. With that being said I was speaking with a good friend of mine who happened to be retired SF. He builds AK's, stock piles ammunition, food and whatever else he thinks he will need when the country fails. As we were talking about life he announced he was 100% Democrat and his family's democratic roots could be traced back generations. He went on to say he was registered and received all the mail from the current batch of Democrats. That is when his attitude changed about being a Democrat and he got down right mad. He said he was a true Democrat and not the super liberal ones that are around Washington now. He said he has nothing in common with them other than the moniker of being a Democrat. He can't stand any of them and what they have done to the country. He said he hasn't voted for a Democrat in a few decades even though he considered himself one. I would say he was more Republican, God help me if he reads this, based on his actions than most people on this board.

Sounds almost like the OP is like my friend. A Democrat by name but not by his actions. Fundemantally I think we all want to help our fellow man it is just a difference in how we help that is in contention.

I have helped a lot of people out but I have rarely just handed it to them. I allow them to to do some minor work for major pay, this keeps the professional beggers away. I had a guy clean off some of my property, took him a couple of hours moving slow then I bought his family a few pizzas and handed him $250. This way it helps them keep some self esteem.

I think it might be good to have a Democrat on here, if he has the liveral democratic views. Maybe we can get soemthing out of it. Perhaps a little more tolerance on our part and a little more understanding on his. After all we tend to be intolerant of those who don't agree with us.

I bought Africa off of iTunes.

I was disappointed that the iTunes version didn't include Mozambique OR Zambia. Amazon has the full version.

closet libertarian or at least libertarian-curious.

I do lean north into Libertarian territory, especially when you throw in my fervent desire for sensible drug policy instead of this horrible mess we have now.

He went on to say he was registered and received all the mail from the current batch of Democrats.

Part of what pushed me further left is the previous owner of my home was a Republican. I receive copious amounts of conservative junk mail during election season, and I tend to research their (frequently ludicrous) claims. The more I researched, the more lies I encountered. (I know, it's the same on both sides, but I found that the lib lies to come less frequent, so my views could be mostly a choice of the lesser evil.)

But those less frequent lies tend to be over the top. I agree that ALL sides lie or at least spin the truth to fit their agenda, Republicans and Democrats alike.

One of the best things this country could do is remove the "D" or "R" next to the name on the ballot. This would hopefully force people to do their own research rather than vote along party lines only. People in general who vote now vote as if it is a "us vs them" contest rather than for the good of everyone.

I don't understand the need for this thread, but whatever. The Constitution was neither written for Democrats or Republicans. It was penned by our forefathers for Americans. Granted, both parties have tried to bend and twist it and its Amendments to their own causes, but that really has no bearing on whether or not an individual can be a Democrat and pro 2nd Amendment.

Where most dividing lines between parties and their constituents are drawn tend to be on social, religious and fiscal matters. And frankly, I don't believe that the job of the Government is to be involved in either of the first two and if they weren't tangled up in social morasses, then they probably wouldn't have the expenses that have caused concerns over their financial blundering.

Anyway, play nice folks.
