Just out of curiosity what happens to gun sales if the government shuts down? Will the background checks still be able to be done? Or will gun sales just go away for awhile?

Not planning on buying anything any time soon so no big deal, just wondering.

There's no reason it should shutdown. It is simply access to a computer database that should not require even essential personnel, let alone non-essential personnel. I keep wondering why we're employing non-essential personnel in the first place. Be that as it may, I made the purchase of the Sig 2022 from G&L in H'ville today just in case.

That's a great question and I imagine they will do it like every time your local government is

talking about a tax increase they use the threat of cutting back of essentials (fire, ambulance,

police) to get their way. I think someone musty have been crying a bit when they said the IRS

would pare operations even. It's already known that the Dems will blame the Republicans, well

they already started, so expect anything including NICS. It ain't essential.

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I think the TICS unit are state employees. I would think they will be at work come monday.

Yes, but they access the NICS database, just as all other states do. They just impose another level of bureaucracy on things. And charge you a tax for it.

TBI sent an email to all FFL's in the state this morning. TICS/NICS background checks will run as normal in the event of a govt shutdown. It went on to say that the National Instant Check System is deemed essential and will not be shut down.

Well that's good news for gun buyers I guess. I suppose they'll keep it going becaause they use it for a lot more than arms sales.
