Magsafe ammunition, anyone shoot it? Opinions?

I have a friend who thinks he wants to carry these in his 45acp for self defense, I told him I have no experience with them but that I would try and get some info as to stopping power, penetration, etc.

So, if any of you know much about these rounds please enlighten me...thanks

I don't have a very high opinion of it. It's over-hyped and over-priced. It has some serious penetration issues.

Also some of it is loaded beyond SAAMI specifications, I guess to compensate for its poor design. The 380 stuff now comes with a sticker telling you to not use it in a P3AT. I noticed that at the gun show this past weekend. The over-pressured round has caused kabooms in that weapon from blowouts in the ramp area. That's the same place 40 Glocks have a problem.

See http://www.ar15.com/lite/topic.html?b=5&f=38&t=27717 for more info.

I'd go with something else.

I still haven't seen any evidence that a tarted up superlight, superfast, fragmenting, yadda-yadda-yadda round has any terminal perfomance advantage over a standard well-designed HP bullet moving at a normal-for-caliber speed. Winchester White Box HPs have performed well in many tests, and are usually just a buck or two over their FMJ counterparts. Besides being good performers, that allows you to practice with what you carry. That's especially important in semi-autos where your want to run a couple hundred rounds through the gun to ensure reliability. That'll cost what, $60 with WWB? $300 with the fancy pants stuff?

Most of my carry ammo is Remington Express stuff due to low price and availability, unless for some reason I feel like carrying home-rolled that day. (No, I don't want to get in a legality discussion here)

YOU MUST BE KIDDING!!!!!

Just read the Extreme Shock website http://www.extremeshockusa.com/.

It's The World's Most Advanced Ammunition!!!!!!! Just ask them!!!!!

Hell, if you shoot someone in the chest with their FANGFACE 380, it will make their head explode.

Fact is, prefragmented bullets typically do not give sufficient penetration. The best way to get killed in a gunfight is to use ammunition that does not give suffiicient penetration.

Most ammo that gives sufficient penetration in warm weather on a lightly dressed offender may give excessive penetration with little expansion on a heavily clothed offender in cold weather.

Most ammo performing adequately on a heavily dressed offender will give insufficient penetration on a lightly dressed offender.

Use a traditional hollowpoint design from a reputable ammo company. Remington's Golden Sabre is at the top of the defensive ammo pyramid. Speer's Gold Dot, Winchester's Supreme, and Federal's Personal defense also work well.

Thanks folks for you valued opinions. After I posted this I read some reviews on line about the magsafe and I will definitely be trying to talk my friend into carrying something else.
