My wife wants to go to New York City.

I went to NYC over my spring break (~3 weeks ago). It was a neat experience, but I'm glad we were only in NYC for 3 days. It would definitely be stressful to live there, but if you're there with expenses paid it's ok for a few days. I'll agree that it's pretty awesome to see Times Square at night. It was surreal eating at an Italian restaurant named Carmines because we literally had to walk through Times Square to get there. I'll also agree that drivers are crazy. Anyone driving a crown vic, a towncar, or anything yellow will try to run you over in the crosswalks - even if you're legal to be walking there. I also rode my bicycle in Manhattan and it was like the most intense 30 seconds I've ever had in traffic in Nashville, only it was like that for the entire time I was on the bike. Pretty crazy, but this one of the more fun trips I've ever been on.

I have been to New York City several times, and love it. To me the best places are Soho and Greenwich village people there are a little nicer, and there are great resturants there. The only advice I can give is use the subway more than the taxi cabs, they will cost you a fortune once the cabbie figures out your not a New yorker and trust me you'll stick out like a sore thumb. IMO go to Peter Lugers Steakhouse it is very pricey but well worth it.

Glad the op decided to go. I go several times a year and always discover something new. Some experiences are best had in person.
