Good deal on an enfield?

I think I stumbled across a good deal this morning. Its sporterized (ack) but it seems like everything is in good shape. Shiny bore, no major rust anywhere...

Half the fun of these guns is trying to figure out exactly what you have. From just glancing at it, It appears to be a 1916 ShtLE (mkIII?). I think it originally had volley sights, but those are missing.

What do you think something like that might be worth?

I have to agree with Garufa on this one too many good deals on unmolested ones right now maybe $125 if it was a really nice sporter job not just cutting off the stock. If you are thinking of restoring it that will cost more than it will be worth.

No intentions of restoring it. I had been poking around for a cheap platform to tinker with. I considered a mosin, but just generally felt wrong destroying something in original condition. I paid 100 for it, but it also came with two boxes of .303 (which is pretty expensive.) I kind of figured it would be worth around 150. Maybe I was a little high in that estimate? Ill try to get pictures up later.

I would have taken a pass. It is worthless beinng butchered as you describe. just MHO.

why do people do this to battle rifles?

well. The digital camera is on the fritz. It wont seem to hold a charge whatsoever. Boo.

Additionally, I think im leaning towards trading it off. As I was taking it apart, I kind of decided that it might not be what im looking for in a "tinkering" project. Its in pretty good shape & seems like it would be a good shooter, I just think it might be hard to get the overall look/feel Im going for.

anyone have a "pre-molested" potential project laying around? :tough:

Below are pics of a Savage No. 4 Mk I* I picked up a few years ago. It seems like the supply of milsurps has dried up a bit the last year or two...except for Mosin 91/30's. SOG had some Enfields earlier this year, but I don't know what kind of shape they were in, or if they still have any.

JMR1138: That is some deadly work of art. Is the bore a two-groove?

There were five original #4s at the Ft. Worth show on New year's Day. One was a blond #4/Mk. 2.

You will seldom see any #4s at shows in the Memphis area, unless butchered. That's why I gave up on most area shows.

A buddy had a mint #4/Mk. 2 at the last Memphis show. He wanted about $900.

By the way, for those of you further east, a private seller with a table at the Franklin show in February had a mint #5

"Jungle C.".

2-groove. I've read that the stacking rod indicates it spent some time in Turkey. The Brits didn't use those. I had to replace about $70 worth of small parts to get her back into fighting shape.

MY two Longbranches both have 2-grooves, and maybe equally bright bores/rifling.

With new Prvi Partizan Boat Tail bullets, one rifle made round holes at 100 yards, but the other made nasty keyhole gashes.

Maybe just One seller on "Ammo Seek" sells ammo which is Not Boat Tail. Believe that it has 180-grain bullets.

It is very difficult to find it.
