As a late birthday gift my wife has signed me up to go take the HCP class at On Target in Murfreesboro.:) So what do I need to expect when I go? I plan on taking my Bersa Thunder .380 for the range test but may carry my Taurus PT92AF 9mm.:(

Expect some learnin and to hear some stuff you already know like how to clean you gun,etc...

I thought mine was kinda boring but you still get to shoot:D

It's an easy class. They will tell you the answers to everything on the written test.

Honestly, you will pass with whatever handgun you take with you. I'd probably take the 9mm. The ammo will probably cost less and it should be easier to shoot. If you have a .22 or can borrow one, I'd take it. It makes no difference what you qualify with. You can carry anything you want.

The PT92 would actually be more accurate and easier to shoot...

Congrats on getting the ball rolling though! Your guardian angel will be grateful for a little backup.

very easy. dont make the mistake and take your mags loaded, they will make you unload them. when i did my course, i used 100 rounds of ammo. 50 for practice and the rest for the real deal.

take the gun your most familiar with and on average, the class lasts 8 hours (supposed too anyway, depends on how often people cry for a break) so in other words its gonna burn up an entire day.

pay attention and your all set. the test is so good i promise a 5th grader could take it and pass.

Thanks guys. I can't wait till tommorow to get this thing rolling. I plan on going to the DMV 8 days later to start the paper work. I think I will take the .380 for now since I need a little more range time with the Taurus.

I took the class today. It was OK, but it dragged a bit at times. They were pretty basic, teaching things like handgun nomenclature & how to clean a pistol & revolver. I thought that was a little odd, but of course there were some people in that class who were rank beginners w/ firearms.

Anyway, the class is a no-brainer & you'd have to really try to not pass. Just listen & have an open mind; ya' might learn something. I did.

Mostly what I learned is how different TN is from TX (I used to be a TX CCW instructor). The TX laws are a lot more relaxed as far as protecting property. In Tennessee, deadly force is only authorized as self-protection.
