Savage Axis(EDGE) .308

I have been wanting to get into bench shooting and have been looking at a very inexpensive way to do this. After reading a lot into it I started my search for a Mosin Nagat. However, considering it for a long time I decided to purchase a new weapon rather than have to deal with any cosmoline removal or anything.

So, today I purchased a Savage Edge, I think they calll them Axis now, in a .308 win caliber. It weighs in at what feels like around 6 lbs without scope, but for the gun design and it being a Savage, I just couldn't pass it up for the price. Usually, I stay away from Walmart, but today I hang my head in shame as this is where I bought the gun. I called around to some Gun shops and no one could beat their price, or they didn't carry the caliber I wanted.

Walmart has the gun in .223, 30-06, 7mm, .308 and there was another caliber I think, but I really don't remember. They have it for $267.77, a great deal if you ask me. I was out the door for $333, that was the gun, a box of ammo, a swivel target, a can of oil and a carton of Ice cream

Now, to find me a scope so I can get some range time in!

Harvested a Deer earlier this year with my new edge. I picked up the .308 also the only thing I don't like is the heavy trigger but for the price its hard to beat. I picked mine up with a scope for 275 out the door.

Well, you know you have to post pictures or no one will believe you right??

Just kidding! Savage makes great rifles. I've had several, and I just picked up a model 10 PC in 308 myself. You did alright. No one can compete with Wal-of china-Mart for prices. You'll love the Savage, and to be honest, AND I am sorry cuz I know I am fixin' to really hurt some folks feelings, it's twice the rifle the Mosin is. Okay, maybe not if you need to club a Zombie over the head, but for accuracy, it's going to be tough to beat.

Good Job!

Hah, I'll try to get some pics up tomorrow.

I really like it so far, but I need a scope for it. Anyone know of a decent low cost scope that will mount out of box to get me started?

And yea they do have pretty good prices...I'm sure if I called all the gun stores in east tn I could have probably found the scoped edge for around the same price or maybe someone could have beat their price but I would have to drive forever to get it. Walmart had a good price on a Mossberg Maverick 12 gauge pump that I've got my eye on as well

Not the best picture, was taken with my droid. That's a box of Federal ammo, figured I'd buy the cheap stuff until I get used to the gun. Just ordered me a scope off opticsplanet.net It comes with picatinny weaver rings, are those decent or should I invest in better rings before I mount?

Had to go with the cookies and cream...I'm a sucker for that flavor, don't know why

And yea, my scope shipped today so hopefully will have it in a day or two...will post updated pic when I get it

What wallmarts around chattanooga have long guns? The ones I have hit do not, but I have not made any effort to tour their stores either. Heck, it takes 1/2 an hour to get a box of ammo at the one closest to me, you hunt down an employee, then they hunt down the person with the keys, ....

I was looking at the single shot H&R survivor 308 but if I can get a savage in that price range, I might do that instead. Certainly worth a look-see, though I really like the stock and design of that single shot..

Jonnin, the one in Dayton does as that is where I bought my rifle. The one in Soddy Daisy does and I'm almost positive the one in Hixson does as well. All those stores are only 15-30 minute drive depending where exactly you live. If your ever in Athens they still sell them too

Awesome, thanks a bunch! I know where those are, hixson would be the closest to me.

Not a problem, and if your looking for a shotgun, the Dayton store has a Mossberg Maverick 88 12gauge pump for 187.99. It's next on my list. If your a fan of Mossberg rifles they had a .270 there but I'm not sure of the model. Also had the Remington Model 770 for 297 and they had a Remington Model 700 for 367 I think it was. Hixson probably carries all those as it seems most Walmarts carry the same guns.

The savage I bought comes in a Camo paint too, but it was a bit more expensive.

Sounds great. One at a time though, I cant afford to buy the place out all at once even at those prices...

I don't need camo. I don't hunt, its not all that attractive to me, and if its zombie time and they are close enough to see this type of gun, I am in trouble...
