Clip or magazine?

Anyone watch "Breakout Kings"? Last week a prison escapee they were after stabbed a guard and took his Glock 17.

After learning he'd killed 2 people, one of the U.S. Marshalls after him said "A Glock 17 has a 12-round clip, so he only has 10 bullets left".

I tried not to let it bother me, but failed.

I tend to let the person who owns the gun call it whatever they want.

After all, they are armed - and it's the polite thing to do.

Indeed sir. I noticed that as well. (Love the show by the way). But in her defense, she is just a criminal and not a Marshall. Her background puts her as the daughter of a bounty hunter I think.

Oh yeah, my bad...she's not a marshall.

She is hot though! The Hollyweird brains that make decisions on that show were smart enough to cast her, but not smart enough to know anything about guns. l'm not surprised.

You are my new hero.

I'm going to clean my beretta 92 and its banana clip. With double d 40. I'll use the take apart button break it down range style. I am also going to run a brass hair brush through the bullet hole to get out any leftover bullet stuff.

Really, I don't see the clip versus magazine annoyance. So from now on I am with Mike. If you get pissed off about semantics you are probably getting bent about the wrong thing. Snow machine.

As for the term, I refer to them as magazines 100% of the time, but if someone says they need a clip for their Glock 19 I fully understand their question. No correction needed. As a matter of fact I her the term "clip" used at gun shows ALL the time. I wonder if the orginal GI's still called them clips. How long did it take to consistantly refer to them as magazines?

My WWI &II veteran grandfathers called it a clip. good enough for me.

The term "magazine" was invented by the U.S. Military to keep the soldiers in line with lingo especially when filling out requisition sheets (they also use terms like "kinetic military action" to refer to attacking Libya, WTF?).

That is to distinguish it from a "static military action," like not defending our borders...

Oh, and I am with the "it doesn't really matter" crowd on this one.

I try to make a consistant effort to say magazine every time, or just mag. But I don't get all bent out of shape when I hear clip used. It's pretty frequent with handguns due to TV & movies. Mainly the only people I'd try to correct/educate are those that I know have no familiarity with weapons and ONLY know the term clip from TV... IF they were interested in knowing the difference.

Do you think the terms are somewhat a regional thing?

For me I hate using the wrong term(s). I make a point of trying to know the correct nomenclature of specific firearms parts. Nothing worse than trying to explain to a customer about his "thingy that goes here and does that" ( B) yes I know how that sounds) that is not working correctly. That being said I never correct folks, Clip works for me.

I often try to explain it to my friends that may not know the difference, but that is not because I really care. It is mainly to educate them so they will know what is going on when someone does get all butt hurt over it.
